Did not go to the park on this visit but parked just across the road, which is fantastic for the beach, less than 10 Meters.

This is the jewel in Leysdown's crown. To sit by the sea, enjoy the weather - whether the sun is shining or the rain is pelting down with the sea crashing the sea wall - and realise how lucky you are to visit such a beautiful place.Unfortunately most people haven't been lucky enough to discover this gem.So please, let's not tell them, and then we can enjoy the sea in solitude!Oh, and you must see the statue of The Short Brothers near Muswell Manor at the far end of the park. The brothers got the contract to build the first Wright Flyers for the American Wright Brothers in 1910 and this beautiful statue celebrates that.Ps. The statues is made of resin, so do not try stealing it!

The kids area of the park is well maintained, and a good little selection of apparatus for the children to play on. And on Sunday's they held football games up the other end of the park. It also not bad to have a stroll as you see butterflies, bee's all sorts of insects flying around especially early morning and late afternoon.

Would I write a very enthusiastic review about Leysdown Costal Park, in the same way I would about the West Coast of Scotland, or the Northumbria coast? In short, no. Is it still a good place to visit? Absolutely yes, it all depends on what you are looking for and your expectations. The area is very much improved from when I lived there in the 1960's and 1970's, probably the most noticeable change is the sea water quality, that has changed beyond recognition. Is it crystal clear, no, but that is because of the London clay along the coastline, but all the filth that used to be in the water has now gone, probably has much to do with all the work.done on cleaning the Thames. The park itself is a large, grassed, FREE car park, with a row of brightly coloured and well maintained sea houses along the seawall. I have visited in April, May, August, October and November this year and at no point have I seen the car park anywhere near full. It is well maintained and the council very diligently empty all the bins daily during the summer months. The tides are very slow to ebb and flow, so safe and predictable if you are visiting with young ones. The beaches are best described as a mix of shingle with sand and when the tide is out, mud flats. In general the beaches are clean and well looked after, I have seen a couple of organised litter picks when staying.I have never see the beaches crowded at the Coastal Park, nor Shellness beach which adjoins it.The beach is regularly fished, but I couldn't say what the fishing is like here in terms of expected catches.I would not drive for hours to visit, unless there is another reason for being in the area, but certainly worth visiting if you are in the area. There are shops and amusements a short walk away in Leysdown itself, I'd estimate about 1/4 of a mile.I will post some photos of the park when we next visit, in Spring 2024, the photos I gave posted are of the beach and the views from the cliffs at Minster looking towards the boom, Warden, Leysdown and Shellness.
