The Cat Inn
We were well impressed with all the food, everything we tried was superb, we went there by recommendation and the experience exceded expectations! The restaurant is located in a very cute small town, and the building is elegant and cosy. The staff is super welcoming and friendly, our dog was a bit too nervous and they were kind and understanding at all times. The food is delicious, they have reinvented even a classic fish and chips. EVERYTHING is delicious, this is by far the best food I have ever had in the UK since moving here in 2018. So stop what you are doing right now, get in the car and drive to The Cat!!! (Call them first as it took us a couple of attempts to book on weekends!). And even if you are full, please make space for dessert! (I promise you will struggle deciding which one to get!).

I strongly recommend The Cat. My wife and I stayed for one night in early November and are looking forward to returning at some time in the near future. It’s a first class traditional inn, with good ales and open fires, and a busy food trade in a number of discrete dining areas that provide a surprisingly large number of covers but don’t dominate the guest experience. The rear extension that forms one of the larger dining areas (and the excellent w.c. facilities) has been well-designed and avoids the tacked-on conservatory “food factory” feel that so many other pubs now seem to have.Service in the very busy dining room(s) and bar was little short of exceptional, from a team who have obviously been well-trained and work together well. Our food was very well prepared and extremely fresh, from a menu of mostly classic dishes that offers adequate choice but is limited enough so you know everything has been freshly cooked in house. The owner Andrew was friendly, hospitable and active in all parts of the pub throughout the evening and at breakfast.Prices for food and drinks were very reasonable, especially given the quality on offer. The four B&B rooms are very comfortable and well equipped, breakfast was superb and lacked nothing. The car park at the rear isn’t the largest but arriving at 3pm we were able to park ok. There are 2 spaces given over to electric vehicle charging. On-street parking is limited in this beautiful village of largely c.16th buildings, secluded in Ashdown Forest.

Wow! Wonderful pub and restaurant. Saturday lunch with family. Food was utterly amazing. From the Dill Mussels, baked Halibut and finished with a mind blowing Raspberry Soufflés and coffee. Not a scrap left by 7 of us. Compliments to the chef. They deserve some stars. V nice wine selection as well. Entire afternoon made more enjoyable by the attentive and engaging staff. Nicest people I have ever been looked after by. Had the great big elevated table by bar. All round an excellent afternoon and highly recommended.

Fantastic food and fantastic service. We shared a few of the peach and tomato tarts which were incredible and a must order.I had the pan fried cod as a main - the breaded mussels were special and the fish was great. Only thing I'd say is the sauce needed a touch more flavour for me.For dessert I tried the raspberry souffle and the hazelnut and fig cake. Both were brill but the soufflé was amazing. All the staff were so friendly and made it memorable. For 3 courses and a drink it came to around £42, definitely worth visiting

A lovely lunch stop on a Friday! We happened to be passing and in need of a lunch stop and we were very glad that we discovered The Cat Inn. The service was excellent and we were made very welcome. Our dog was made a fuss of and given a bowl of water & dog treat. Our meals were delicious-the tastiest Caesar salad and fish and chips we could have wished for. We even succumbed to share a grand marnier soufflé which was zesty and light. Highly recommended and we will have to find an excuse to return again.

Very good gastropub. Great food and great choices in wine. Love their burger and roast (potatoes could be crispier). But they need to offer more vegetarian options than just a deep fried courgette flower.

Dinner for 4 which was excellent. Food was superb and all home made - Scotch egg starter (runny yolk inside), Gammon which was amazing (yes I know its 'just' Gammon but it was the best I've ever tasted) and a lovely Treacle tart. We all enjoyed our meal. The service was friendly, great and warm, and my best compliments to the Chef and his team for the food.Lovely evening and looking forward to going back again.Thank you.

The Cat Inn
Food was excellent and our waitress delightful, but was not happy with our table next to the toilets and the staff door. The old part and the smaller restaurant by the bar are the best places to sit as the main restaurant is soulless. It was our friends first visit to the Cat so not a great first impression apart from the excellent food.

Lunch was absolutely fantastic at the Cat Inn, we made a booking in advance and were given a larger table as we had a baby with us which was very thoughtful. We didn’t have to put her car seat on the floor as we had expected.Service was very quick, efficient and friendly, adding to the nice atmosphere. The inn was really well presented too, well lit and freshly decorated (or looked it!). Plenty of parking round back also. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Very generous portions and everybody was pleased with the quality. The pie in particular was crammed full of steak but everything was delicious, the pork nuggets and squid rings appetisers too. Everything was very reasonably priced too, good value for the quality.

One of the best pubs in the south of England, simply outstanding! I had the lamb & apricot pie which was cooked to perfection, along with the vegetables.I was recommended the raspberry soufflé, which I order and was not disappointed. It was so light and delicious, just what you need after a big meal.
