Dunston Lodge Boarding Kennels

Highly recommended. Looked after my German shepherd for the last 3 weeks. They do a pick up and return taxi service which is good for people without there own transport , and bathe the dog before it's return. Will definitely use again in the future.

Our Cocker Spaniel, Willow loved it while she was there, it looks like. She usually does not eat very well when she is away, but this time she looks like she has been eating well, looked great when I went to pick her up. Great location and lovely staff.

I have used Dunson Lodge on several occasions now, and I have nothing but praise for the kennels and the team who work there. My dog isn't the easiest to deal with and suffers from separation anxiety, but they do a great job. I have several kennels that are closer to my home, but the extra drive is worth it for the care and attention they give my dog. Never had any issues when I've collecting him, and they are always happy to give me an update on how he's doing after a few days of dropping him off. I would definitely recommend Dunston.

Wouldn’t trust these again. They had our lovely dog for two weeks. I went in t check the kennels out first and our dog is a big dog so asked if they would put him in one of the large kennels cos small ones are too small for him and they promised they would! When we dropped him off we bought him his large cushion and his two favourite toys and again clarified he needed a large kennel. So left him there. When we left him he him he was weighing 7 1/2 stone. When we picked him up we were told he hadn’t had a bath and he was malting a lot. He also looked half his size and the young girl we were talkin too told us he had been in small kennel so our poor dog wouldn’t even have been able to turn round for two weeks and she said they put bigger dogs than ours in small kennels. We got him home and he was 6 stone 5 in two weeks! Getting his cushion out we soon realised it had never been used as there was no dog hair on it as it wudn’t fit in small kennel but wud have in big kennel! Our dog was dehydrated as we cud tell will the skin on back of neck didn’t go down straight away and then he kept being sick after every meal we gave him. He was wolfing it down so fast cos he was hungry! All this after being told he wud be fed three times a day and being told he was fine every time someone checked on him. We received no email with photos of him as promised! He was at vets same day as coming out to see if was ok and it took till yesterday, 6 days after picking up for him to stop being sick! Wouldn’t recommend anyone to trust their dogs with these people!

Enquired to book my dog in and was told they'd give me a call back to take details as they had space for her. They didn't call back and I couldn't get through to them on the phone so I emailed. They sent me booking details with the wrong dates to which I replied stating this. Had no contact back for a couple of weeks which by then I'd managed to book elsewhere. They then sent me another email saying they are expecting my dog on such a date which again was totally the wrong date. I will not try to book my dog here again. It seems they haven't a clue what they're doing, bad management. I've since heard terrible things about the place and how the dogs are treated which is appauling. They've even had dogs 'go missing' so I'm so relieved I chose elsewhere, dodged a bullet.

Always found the staff very professional and welcoming, and it's clear they know my dog. As for the dog, she seems to love it and is always very keen to get in whenever we take her. Strongly recommended.

Extremely happy with the Dunston Lodge boarding kennels. They went above and beyond when my daughter's dog went missing on Friday afternoon. He was found by another extremely kind lady, who then took him to Dunston Lodge, where Richard took him in, dried him off, kept him safe overnight and fed him. He then called local vets to find his owner. All of this he did without asking for any payment. Amazing. Definitely a dog person and extremely kind. Thank you so much *****

Proceed with caution regarding Dunston Lodge. I wanted to book originally for 2 nights - afternoon drop off - with a collection before noon. Their policy is they will charge you in full for the 3rd day which I haven't come across before with any kennel in 16 years of dog ownership. But fair enough I accepted it. The reason for booking the kennels in first place was we wanted a 1 day family day trip to Alton Towers and knew that it would be unfair to leave the dog for that long. So we accepted a three day fee for a 1 day adventure. However - with less than 5 weeks of my dog arriving at Durston Lodge and a month after the original booking I received an email out of the blue saying the minimum booking period in July / August and September is 5 days. 5 days! No mention of this anywhere on their website but apparently emailed to me in small print Ts&Cs at the time of booking. So my fault apparently for not realising what I thought was a 2 night booking is actually a 5 day booking. Silly me. Response from the owners was terse that turned in to sarcastic. Odd for a customer facing business. We were nervous about booking with Dunston Lodge having read their Google reviews. I would suggest anyone going forward takes caution. If you want 5 days or more and are happy to book for a full day if you collect at 9.30am then great. If this isn't what you are expecting hopefully this review is useful. One point as a positive for Dunston Lodge is when I cancelled after refusing a 5 day minimum booking they agreed to refund my deposit no problem. Hopefully my deposit refund will arrive within the 5 days as promised otherwise I will be updating my review.

I have been using Dunston Lodge for Bear and Rose for around 4 years now and I can’t praise the staff enough for how accommodating and friendly they are!Every time I drop my dogs off they are bouncing around and excited to see Richard and his team. When I collect my dogs they look healthy and clean and sometimes they enjoy their stay so much that I have to bribe them with treats to get in the car!I have done both short and long stays with Dunston Lodge over the years and my dogs are always happy to go there. When I first enquired about boarding they gave me an option of food brands I would prefer my dogs to eat for allergy reasons, which was super helpful as my dogs although not allergic are super fussy.Richard and his team have always gone above and beyond and my dogs have always been given so much care, love and attention. I will always be coming back to Dunston Lodge for boarding as the service has always been outstanding.Thank you everyone at Dunston Lodge for providing a safe and happy space for Bear and Rose every time they stop with you!Matthew G
