Public Art - The Sporting Success statue by Martin Williams
This statue group was unveiled on 16/11/1998 following a successful campaign for its creation by the fans of Leicester City FC, Leicester Tigers RFC and Leicestershire County Cricket Club in partnership with the Leicester Mercury newspaper and various local businesses to commemorate the achievement of each of the Clubs winning a National competition in their respective sports during the same year (1996/7).On the slim bronze strips at top of each of the faces of the triangular plinth the statues are mounted upon it is stated: SPORTING SUCCESS BY MARTIN WILLIAMS. THIS SCULPTURE WAS PAID FOR WITH CONTRIBUTIONS FROM LEICESTER MERCURY READERS AND PRIVATE COMPANIES TO CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF OUR SOCCER
