Hallingbury Mill
A lovely venue, but the en suite shower/toilet room was absolutely tiny and the host was drinking a pint of beer as he served breakfast. It's also on the Stansted flightpath. The pub down the road does good food (especially the local sausages).

So glad we chose this rather than the similarly priced chain hotels. When we saw the picture of the Little Hallingbury Mill, we fell in love with it, especially the strange 'overhanging' rooms. So we were really excited to find that we were staying in one of them. These rooms are where the bags of grain would have been hauled up to from the delivery cart below. By the very nature of their original purpose, the room was a bit smaller than you might expect at a 'chain hotel'. However, it was very comfortable with a good bed, tv and tea and coffee. We had a good night's sleep in the peace and quiet of the countryside and woke up to the gorgeous view over the coloured canal boats on a frosty January morning. Both dinner and breakfast are taken in the room that contains the original (and still operational) mill paraphernalia and water wheel - which made for an interesting conversation with Richard, the owner, about how it all worked. And the food was fabulous. The dinner menu is different every night and, because she cooks from scratch, chef Miranda was easily able to cater for one vegan and one meat eater. We will definitely go back again.

We were made very welcome at Little Hallingbury Mill. The owners clearly work hard to look after their customers which was great. Our room was spacious although the decor was a little tired and bathroom was small. The mill has a bar restaurant known as the White Hart. It is very game-orientated which you may or may not like but it is beautifully presented. This is also a very pretty village and well worth a visit.

A little gem of the area. Hidden away down a narrow country lane and nestling on the banks of the canal. I had been lucky in that I was looking for a 'different' hotel for a single night stay after a 65th birthday party in Sawbridgeworth. I wanted to get away from the Travelodge and Welcome Inn for a change. Now, don't take that wrongly, we love both of those hotel chains but, on this occasion, wanted something different.A really friendly, welcome as we arrived, by Richard. Owner of The Mill with his wife Miranda. Miranda, we were told was the brains in the kitchen. As it was a quiet time of year we were upgraded to a larger room in the house.Lovely large room with all the amenities needed, including bathrobes. Comfy bed, and I mean comfy. Neither of us wanted to leave that bed in the morning. Flat screen TV, coffee/tea making facilities. Free, fast WiFi. All of this for a very reasonable price of just under £50.An extra £7.50 each gave us a wonderful breakfast starter for the day. There had to be a 'down side' to these prices so it was going to be the breakfast, we thought. No way, cereals available with orange juice in the huge glass jug. Wonderful cafetiere of nicely ground coffee and then the full English. A plateful of beans, mushrooms, tomato, egg, bacon (so tasty) and sausage (must have been local) with toast. Set us up for the day.Speaking to Richard he said that the Mill was an ongoing project of theirs. Restaurant, Wild Hart, with its local game and venison dishes. We look forward to giving it a try in the near future. I can see that booking will have to be made to get a table.Great stay and I would recommend The Mill to anyone if they are looking for somewhere to stay in the area.

We ending up staying here for one night only and I must say we won’t be returning. We paid for 2 standard double rooms and although the first was nice, the other was absolutely awful. Cobwebs all over the windows inside, bad mould all round the windows. The smell of the room was damp and fusty and both me and my partner did not sleep through coughing all night. The room was very dated, there were stains on the chairs and carpets, wallpaper peeling off. I have stayed in many hotels and by far this was the worst room I have ever stayed in. I don’t think I am able to upload photographs to show you, but very disappointed in what was a beautiful area. This is not one of the cheapest places either. Overall very disappointed.

Had a really lovely Sunday roast here this weekend. Good food, reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Some of the best service I've ever received. A nice gin tasting menu too, good enough to get me (not a gin fan) to order one after my meal, and it was delicious. Will definitely return.

Lovely place to stay. If your after all mod cons then it's not the place for you. Being a listed building there's not mu h thay can change in the rooms.Lovely historic building that has beautiful views and any renovations have been very sympathetically done. The managers were both very friendly and accommodating as well.

The room was small..the website was a tiny cupboard with the toilet in the shower, much like in a tiny caravan..very very basic..no bottles of water..which is essential..no glasses..just two cups..no saucers..decor was awful..only good thing was the view out of the Window..nice view of the sunset as the room was almost in the attic.I wouldn't recommend at all
