The mayflower monument is located by the historic old walls of southampton and can be found opposite the mayflower park.by following the walls walk.on the monument is a board giving the history of the pilgrim fathers and the mayflower and speedwell. There is a pleasant walk round the walls with information board's giving you the history of the town. The pig in the wall restaurant /caf'e good place to have a coffee and sit by the fire on a cold day. Pay parking close by.

The significance of the Mayflowers journey across the Atlantic, taking the Puritans away from Britain under King James where the main religion was switching between Catholic and Protestant since King Henry 8ths creation of the Anglican Church, cannot be undermined, so perhaps this memorial should be grander and less covered by surrounding trees.

Although under repair a reminder of the importance of the religious freedom the Mayflower voyagers sought. We should remember to learn from history. It is retrograde to ignore or limit such fragile freedoms.

This commemorates the fact that the Mayflower boat containing the pilgrims traveling to America stopped here on its route to pick up more passengers and supplies after leaving Rotherhithe in London.

This is where the famous journey of the Pligrims (English Puritans) began in the year 1620. Just opposite from here they stepped on the ship Mayflower to begin their journey to America. They had to stop at Plymouth as the ship needed repairs before continuing with the journey. There are several plaques on this memorial, important ones being dedicated to William Brewster and Edward Winslow, governor of Plymouth colony. This is a beautiful homage to all those people who risked their lives in the hope of settling in a land where they could practice religious freedom.

A very pleasant area, always something going on, lovely space to see children and adults playing/running around on bikes, and a wonderful Icecream van for treats.
