Edinburgh Blood Donor Centre

I donated blood for the first time yesterday at this centre. I booked an appointment online and found their website informative and very straightforward to book. All staff members were so kind and helpful throughout the entire process and I would highly recommend attending this blood donor centre.

Having been contacted both by text and by post since I last gave blood, I made an appointment for today. Caught a bus from the other end of the city and arrived 14 minutes before my allocated slot. On ringing the bell and giving my details, I was told to wait outside until my time slot. When I said that it was both raining and there was nobody in the waiting area inside, I was told the same.I therefore informed them I would NOT be giving blood this time nor on any other occasion in the future. I subsequently phoned the National help line and have had them remove my name permanently from their donor list. Absolutely appalling.

Donated blood here for the first time and it took a while to get me 'plugged in' despite a few empty chairs,people arrived after me and got put on first. Staff member who checked the form with me didn't seem to know about medical examinations so I had to explain a few things, and had to check lots of things with his supervisor which took a while. Staff was friendly and energetic, and there were gluten free biscuits available afterwards!

Went to donate blood the other day. All staff were very helpful and friendly. It's a shame seeing a lot of people on here moaning about the booking system which is actually great because it prevents wasting blood which happens if too many people of one blood type all donate. Also makes it easier to decide how much staff to put on. I think some of the reviewers here should remember that donating blood is about saving lives so quit moaning about tiny inconveniences.

This morning I gave blood at Lauriston Place in Edinburgh. I was greeted by a friendly (and indeed) complimentary person, then the next person I dealt with was equally friendly, and complimentary. I felt my time had been used well, and my contribution had been appreciated.

Donated blood for the first time and everyone was so incredibly nice and lovely. They were chatty and funny, made the whole experience really nice!

This is the main blood donor centre for Edinburgh and the staff are always friendly and helpful. There's a lot of red tape to go through to give blood, so you're best currently booking an appointment to go in at a set time rather than queue at a drop in, which I think is more useful for most people to plan. You fill in a form, get seen by a checker, then you go into the donation area. You get hooked up to the machine, donate your pint and get given orange or apple juice, and some biscuits afterwards to get your blood sugar going again. It's honestly good fun!

Great place to give blood. The attending doctor had a great sense of humour and the whole process was very smooth. Got a PB of 6m9s for whole blood donation last time, and the staff were very helpful in letting me know about platelet donation

Very friendly staff and pretty painless procedure - these are experts with a needle! The appointment system is all well and good but better provision for drop-ins might encourage more donors. Also: bring back the post-donation cuppa! Disappointing that only diluting juice and water were on offer (yes, and biscuits, but sits down to eat these with water?), not appealing on a cold day.
