Service very friendly but very very slow - we gave up ordering desserts and went elsewhere. Food was better in the past - maybe they’ve cut back with the cost of living or changed chef. Food used to be delicious, now just average. It won awards in the past, but it’s telling no awards this year. Hope it gets back to its best soon - was a lovely pub with a great atmosphere and history. Best pub in Harwich anyway.

Fabulous quirky pub down the backstreets of Harwich Town, serving eclectic meals in the company of an interesting clientele. Staff were excellent. Highly recommended if you're drifting about Harwich.

The only time I’ve eaten lobster & not enjoyed it! Very tough & had a faint strange smell. I also think the grilled oysters were significantly undercooked. I don’t mind raw oysters so wasn’t enough of an issues to complain at the time, but others may be best to avoid.Dining ultimately made even worse by local constantly vaping at the bar! The bar staff did eventually get him stop, but it was clear from the way they rolled their eyes when asking him they thought I was being unreasonable. So disappointing, especially given the high price.

Just wanted to give a big shout out to Gosia. She was absolutely wonderful to us tonight, very attentive and even managed to sort a ride for us back to our caravan .Gosia, you and Ollie are wonderful people! Thank you, 4 stranded ladies !

Lovely pub to visit. Food here is lovely but a couple of times I have visited the food wait has been quite long (1.5 hours once!) and we were not told beforehand of the wait. Great selection of drinks and good environment to be in. Will definitely return again.

Booked in for lunch Saturday 14/10 & Sunday 15th. Staff all very friendly and commendably calm under the pressures of the Shanty Weekend!Food very good - I tried a couple of mains that will be available in their Lambard’s restaurant when it opens in December. Mutton chop with sea beet and smoked potatoes, then wood-roasted Harwich sole in a bone marrow broth, girolle mushrooms, and, again, smoked potatoes.Highly recommended.

This is a nice quaint Inn in the heart of Old Harwich. The service is friendly and there is a great choice of wines, spirits, lagers and cask ales. A nice courtyard garden can be found at the rear of the pub.If you like seafood and fish well worth trying out the menu too as that appears to be the speciality.Four of us had food and two of us had seafood and fish, two had alternative food on the menu.. The fish dishes definitely stood out.Overall experience was good.

Stayed here for a night on a recent visit to the area. I didn`t really know what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised with the room, the service and the food.On arrival the place was very busy but I was busy however I was attended to immediately by a very friendly member of staff. She offered me an upgrade on my room which I chose to refuse after seeing my original cosy Cabin Room" (not the largest room if you are staying more than one night but so cool)After a quick hot shower in the large wet-room I headed downstairs for an evening meal. The menu looked great with lots of locally sourced dishes to choose from. A pint of stout arrived followed by the Greek Salad starter which was large and full of olives

We are regular customers but have just organised a seasonal party for twelve staying overnight with dinner, drinks and breakfast. The Alma scored full marks yet again for the outstanding food, warm welcome, great rooms and excellent value for money. We love the place which is a proper English seaside port pub with a regular and loyal clientele, old world atmosphere and superb service.
