Merkister Hotel

Went there for my birthday with the family. The staff were all helpful and friendly and the food itself was tasty and reasonably good value for money.

We had a family meal here Monday evening, the Merkister is well signposted and easy to find, beautiful quiet location next to the Harray Loch, the building is really lovely.We had fantastic service, the girls were cheerful, helpful and attentive without being over the top, menu had a brilliant selection without being overwhelming.Food arrived quite quickly, absolutely delicious.Thank you for a wonderful evening.

A little out of the main town ensures we had a peaceful few days with beautiful views in all directions but only 15 minutes drive from the main town we didn’t feel isolated the whole team couldn’t do enough for us definitely rebooking on our next visit

Just stopped in here for lunch. The food was very enjoyable and the staff were delightful. Not a cheap meal, but well worth the cost. The view from the dining room was lovely, looking out over Loch Harray. Perfect stop on a day of adventures.

Nothing was too much trouble from the staff who were welcoming and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was superb, and breakfast delicious. But the location is the best part. Right on the Loch the views are gorgeous. Plus it is really well located to see the main attractions on the island.

We booked this hotel for our family holiday. We came in from Texas and brought our family who lives in Gairloch Scotland with us. This hotel is in a beautiful location, the rooms are perfect, and the staff!!!! The staff was superb! Like honestly, THE nicest people I have encountered in a long time. I use to work for Marriott International and so hospitality is an area I am very familiar with, this establishment has hospitality seeping from its walls. The food was great, the rooms were wonderful, the grounds... wow!! The grounds were just amazing. Got to eat breakfast with a stunning view of the loche and a family of swans. Just stunning property. We hope to be back again in the future.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch - the roast beef was second to none, the staff were attentive and great with the kids. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a wonderful stay at the Merkister Hotel. Located on a beautiful loch, it is surrounded by quiet Orkney countryside. Our room was not on the loch, but had a beautiful view over the fields with sheep and cattle. The food in the hotel was wonderful and fresh, breakfast and dinner. It was lovely being able to drink a cup of tea and read in the residents’ lounge, but above all, the staff was outstanding. Very friendly people. They were even so accommodating to drive us to Kirkwall to avoid a hefty taxi fare - they really prioritize their guests.

I returned to the Mercister Hotel after 20 years to find my memory of great food confirmed. What a super place. Great food, a changing menu, with Cullen Skink to die for. A brilliant team of staff, all friendly and helpful and a lovely setting next to Loch Harry.I'm not going to leave it 20 years until my next visit. I really can't recommend the hotel highly enough.
