Cafe Ambio Whinlatter Forest
Was here a couple weeks ago. When it was really hot. I queued up for the outdoor hatch to get an ice cream, which as I got to the front of the queue after standing there for 10 - 15 mins, I was told they are now shut. No warming from the staff, no sign out to say now closed or closing at 5.

Lovely space, food and coffee. Veggie breakfast was great and a big portion. Reasonably priced and the perfect pre and post ride pit stop.

Don't understand the bad ratings. I thought the food was really good. They even have a big terrace where you can sit and enjoy your food accompanied by the birds in the trees around you.

The carrot coriander soup was delicious and warming on a cold rainy day. Enjoyed a hot cappuccino with a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam. Free Wi-Fi was nice as I didn't have reception on my phone and was able to use the Wi-Fi to find lodging for the night. Lots of tables where we were able to relax and unwind after a nice hike.

We were here when it first opened and it was so bad compared to the closed siskins cafe. We had a hot dog and cake which were quite bad and the layout is pretty daft too although somehow they managed to scare away people so don't expect large queues like at siskins

Really not cheap. When I asked to swap the kids water/juice for a small cup of milk, staff were **** & that was going to be and extra £1.70 each. Service was slow. Kid’s sandwich still haven’t arrived at 20min and counting (after paying)… edit: when the kids sandwich did arrive they a brioche bun with cheese or ham in. Not really suitable for kids… needless to say the fillings are extracted.

Very disappointed by our trip to the cafe today. After asking to view the allergy menu I was informed there is a very limited choice of food available for a soya allergy (we are used to this with breads particularly). Initially we picked a 'safe' meal to be told before ordering that actually, despite not listing soya on the allergen menu, the dish contains soya, as soya is in the cooking oil used so any cooked food contains the allergen and is unsuitable. No alternative food could be offered so 2 of our party were unable to eat lunch.Very disappointing that a top 14 allergen is used in all cooking and that allergen menus aren't correct.
