Good open space, some car parking. Boggy in a lot of places. Great for dogs.

Such a lovely place to walk and explore on a sunny autumn day. A variety of mushrooms and loads of squirrels. Perfect for nature lovers

Love this place for long walks for the dog. Lots of different scenery (mature woodland, young woodland, pastures, heathland etc), often see deer. Busy around main North entrance but if entering from East side rarely see anyone. Seriously boggy in winter, need wellies or waders for some parts, better on main paths. Half of it often closed for military training, but plenty left. Beware of adders in the summer.

It's a beautiful place to walk but unfortunately some dog owners use it as a dog's toilet. It's often left there for you to stand in as I did today! Those that do collect it in a bag leave it there rather than put it in the bin in the car park. Obviously they must be waiting for the dog poo fairy to come and collect it!! Other bits of litter I saw were empty plastic bottles. The plebs who do this have no respect for nature. Maybe the MOD should start charging. The place deserves more care and protection from inconsiderate dog owners than it gets at the moment.

I walked around the Strensall Training Area on Saturday 2nd September 2022 and it was a most enjoyable experience.I am staying at Ampleforth Abbey and the Strensall Training Area and Strensall Rifle Ranges are just over a 30 minute drive from Ampleforth Abbey. The Strensall Training Area is used for dry training by the British Army.Today there was no dry training going on but there was live firing taking place at the Strensall Rifle Ranges.I parked my car at the designated car park which is the car park nearest to Strensall village itself.Today there was no public access allowed onto the Strensall Rifle Ranges even after the live firing had ceased. The red flags were flying after the cessation of live firing.I therefore walked around the dry training area at Strensall. It is an interesting place to walk around with plenty of fauna and flora to look at.I also saw a roe deer for the first time at the Strensall Training Area. The deer was behind the fence in the Strensall Rifle Ranges area.I enjoyed my walk around the Strensall Training Area today and I would recommend a visit to the Strensall Training Area.
