I’ve been living in Linthorpe Halls since 2018 and will be staying here until I finish my degree in 2021.Not sure what some of the bad reviews are going on about but I couldn’t give the halls enough praise. The rooms are a good size, 3/4 beds (all the university student accommodation have single beds) wardrobe, desk, shelves and an en-suite bathroom (most university student accommodation is shared bathrooms too so bonus). The shared kitchen is spacious with plenty of cupboards, two fridges, microwave, sofa, tv, table and chairs etc. Dishwasher in the kitchen is an added bonus no washing up!The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, there’s always a staff member in the building too with on site wardens so if you have issues outside normal office hours like your electric tripping or being locked out you can ring the warden (even if it’s 2am) and they’ll come and help. The on-site wardens also makes the accommodation feel really safe. The communal area has a pool table, table tennis and sofas, I spent quite a lot of time down there hanging out with other residents. There’s also a lift to all five floors and laundry facilities.Never had any issues here with the facilities or staff, top student accommodation with affordable rent.

I’ve been here for 3 months and the maintenance is bad , when things get broken it takes weeks or maybe months to get them fixed , I haven’t had hot water in the flat for awhile now and I’ve complained so much and still nothing has been done . I’ve called , sent mails which either got ignored or had no reasonable response . Secondly, there’s poor lightning in some hall ways so they are spooky at night . If you don’t mind poor services it’s an ok fit for you but I’ll advice you to not come here

First accommodation whilst at university, and helped the process of living alone incredibly with a great security and staff that made you feel welcome and always happy to help. The location was great, especially after a night out and any problems would be fixed immediately. Great university halls, the best in Teesside that i seen!

Frankly; not really worth the effort. Lived here for 2 years and spent months at a time without certain amenities.Took a month and a half to fix our boiler, took nearly 2 months to fix the internet when it went down. You're not likely to get your deposit back, and when you ask for transparency about whether or not it's going to be returned; they will get your bank details and then say nothing afterward. For what you get; it's not worth the price. Had a less annoying experience at Parkside Halls and those weren't private.

Didn't even end up staying here properly and had a terrible experience; had to cancel because of emergency and took almost a year to get my deposit back after every email asking about it was ignored until I threatened small claims court, which they are liable for as it was kept against tenancy contract and law (just in case anyone who's also had their deposit kept illegally is reading this). Left in July 2020 therefore should have had it returned then but all emails inquiring about it were ignored until I tried with a different email in November 2020 mentioning talking to a legal team which finally prompted a reply saying my refund would be sent, then was ignored without promised refund until the kind Facebook page operator contacted the landlord for me in October of 2021 when I tried to contact them again. Still took a week to go through. Even had someone else email them on my behalf beforehand to see if they would respond to a general inquiry about a room from someone else and they got a response the same day, then they were ignored when they sent a followup about my deposit.Poor communication, very unprofessional admin. Had me set up an account with an app called Arthur to keep track of rent and utilities, app constantly had an unpaid alert for my deposit after it was paid which never went away, account had a completely different name attached to it (name is Rachel and it showed up as Ryan??), and I was not taken off the system after cancelling my stay so I kept getting emails directed at tenants reminding them of rent from the same email address I had been trying to contact about my deposit for months.Room was not even half ready when I was going to stay there- planned to move some things down on my move-in date when I officially had the room available to me and then come down to stay properly a couple weeks later ready for uni, requested the keys be posted to me for my move-in date to minimise in-person interaction due to COVID, never got them and had to come down in person to collect the keys days after my move-in date. Room itself had a fire alarm unfitted and hanging off the ceiling above the bed that was waiting to be repaired (as far as I can remember) which meant the flat was unsafe in case of a fire, there was a random second old mattress in the room that hadn't been picked up by maintenance or something yet, no lightshade on ceiling and no blinds or curtains fitted into the bedroom window at all but they were lying on the floor with some plastic cover for the fire alarm. Kitchen was pretty dirty, chairs had crumbs lining the back of the cushion and had to clean some of the countertops myself. Could say more about the building and location itself as a vulnerable person who was going to be living there alone but my main gripe was the deposit as I've seen others mentioned theirs was kept too and I personally know multiple people who had to come down in person to ask about it as their emails were also ignored. Glad I didn't stay there.

Everything was great, maintenance was brilliant. Although Timothy kept stealing my eggs.

I've lived in numerous students halls over the years and this is by far the worst. My room was dirty when I moved in, including several dead bugs on the carpet and skirting boards. The furniture in the flat was old, worn and, in some cases, falling apart. The lift broke in November and still hadn't been repaired by the time I moved out at the end of May. Our boiler broke and wasn't fixed for three weeks, leaving us with no hot water for washing up and freezing showers. The fire alarm would often go off multiple times a day for no reason, including in the middle of the night. The stairwells, corridor and 'common room' were filthy and often smelled. None of these problems were ever properly resolved.Yes, this place is cheap. And yes, the location is convenient (albeit loud on a night). But this place is simply not worth it—avoid at all costs.

Apart from friendly staff who try their best with what they have available, this place is clearly a prime example of what happens when a landlord does not provide adequate funds to maintain even the most basic of necessities. No lift for over 10 months, no dishwasher all year when it was reported in September, no security despite claims there is (this place can actually feel quite dangerous and one my friends have been broken into here), no CCTV cameras in flats, corridors or hallways, only one I have seen is in the lift. Always a disgusting mess in the hallways and reception area however this is usually due to the people they house here and not the cleaner- there needs to be some order in this place and start cracking down on this. Absolutely vile smells from peoples flats or from some people themselves it shows the level of cleanliness from some people. I genuinely do not know how people can rate this place 5 stars as its absolutely vile and I would not wish my worst enemy to live here - avoid at all costs unless you’re desperate.

The distance from Linthorpe Hall to Teesside University's library is roughly 4 minutes. There are hardly many studio flats and most are ensuite. The bedrooms are roomy and nicely decorated. Additionally, the staff are cordial. With the exception of the sporadic loud false alarms and the littering of the property, everything else in the hall is fine.
