We decided to stay here because I had to be in the area and we held our wedding reception at this hotel many years ago. We were here for three nights.First the good points. It is in a beautiful location right beside the Exe; most of the staff were pleasant, particularly the breakfast servers and someone I took to be a chef who served behind the bar sometimes; and the food was good, tasty and good portions. We did find someone we assume was a manager (he wore a Hawaiian shirt in the evening), to be rather brusque when we checked in and again when seating us for dinner. The room was OK, large and clean, but it was very musty when we first arrived. We opened all the windows and it was fine for the rest of our stay so they had just not bothered to air it. The ensuite was generally fine but the bath panel needed repainting, there was some very amateur boxing around some pipework and very poorly applied floor sealant. It would cost almost nothing to fix these things. In the bar area there is what looks like a white tiled entrance to the kitchen in the corner; it looks like a door has been removed. We ate near it and there was a scruffy sink, racking and bits and pieces that were very unattractive accompaniment. Now the bad: the room was not serviced or cleaned at all while we were there. We were in the room most of the second day so we assumed they did not want to disturb us. However, after being out all day on day three and still no service we asked one of the staff if we could have a couple of clean towels and some coffee for our room. We waited…eventually we went back to enquire about our request to be told “I have been too busy”. Is it unreasonable to expect a little priority under the circumstances? We still have a bath full of dirty towels so I will shower at the new hotel we are staying in tonight. On check out I was told just leave the keys there". I am not sure the manager even looked up. He certainly did not ask about our stay or I would have told him. This is a mid-priced hotel and should do better. My local relatives say that they have it too easy because of the great location and therefore do not have to try very hard

Locally famous restaurant with a broad selection of meals with several vegetarian and vegan options. We were spoilt for choice. Starters were gorgeous, and mains just as good which i accompanied with an espresso Martini, which i enjoyed with a beautiful view of the river exe. Whats not to love.

Lovely setting. Car park very full but luckily got a space. Met at entrance, quickly shown to our table. Ordered drinks quite quickly but taking food order took a while and there was a problem with the computer and bar apparently. We had mixture of carvery and main menu on our table but was all very delicious and coordinated our timing well.

Food wasn’t bad but mediocre, at best. Perhaps atmosphere would have ranked higher with a table onlooking the beautiful water view. The service was very slow and substandard and they seemed understaffed or overbooked. What soured the experience the most was my keys had fallen out of my pocket so after going back, I was understandably somewhat panicked. The barman had a very smug and condescending tone quizzing me on the keys with “well yeah, I’ve got keys but they could be anyone’s keys”. Usually I would appreciate this if it were framed in a helpful way but it was rude and came across like “prove it mate”. No need for it.

Couldn’t fault anything at all. Steaks was both exactly as ordered and delicious too. Garlic mushrooms were very good and the apple and cherry crumble was the perfect way to top it all off. Atmosphere of being right next to the river is lovely. Highly recommend to all.

The lady behind the bar was very friendly and professional. She clearly loves her job and had a ready smile for all the guests. The food was really great and I would highly recommend this restaurant to others. Its a beautiful place, with a relaxed atmosphere.

It's a gorgeous pub built on the river bank overlooking the old bridge. It's a beautiful view. The only thing that lets this pub down is the food. The food is very expensive (nearly all meals are £15.00+) and it's not even that tasty. In addition, the selection of food is so small. Definitely some work that needs doing on the menu.

Idea was to stop and have dinner and couple of drinks.Had a couple of real ales, both not to my liking. Was welcome by Gentleman who come across, not wanted to be there. I ask what Real ales they sold, he could only remember one out of the two, he asked if we had a reservation as if we would not get a table without, then walked us to a table where many were empty and just said order at the bar.All other staff were nice, the place looks well decorated and sits right on the river so lovely location.Would recommend a visit and hope you enjoy it.

Overall had a good night , unfortunately it does seem that this pubs does take on more than it can handle as we turned up on our booking time and had to wait 20 minutes for our booked table and was a very very packed pub / restaurant. Overall though had a good grub and most of my family were happy except a couple of impatient family members . The blonde waitress who dealt with us done a very good job for a big table under pressure so would like to say thank you . They did give us a generous discount on food so we all left happy with a belly full of good grub .

A beautiful spot to have a drink and some food , especially on a lovely summer's day when you can sit out by the river . Food was pretty standard but good pub food at a reasonable price . Service was friendly and good . Not a major criticism but the interior could do with a lick of paint as it looked a little tired and worn but this didn't distract from the generally good atmosphere of the place.
