The Birdcage
Absolutely shocking experience at Birdcage. I booked a table as a surprise bridal shower for my friend getting married. I dropped off some balloons, confetti and banner on the morning and told them it was a surprise. However, when I arrived with my friend, they forgot it was a surprise & didn’t have the table set with any of the decorations I dropped off earlier that day!!! The food was very average and the service was slow (they forgot half the drinks). Won’t be recommending or going here again.

Wasn’t sure if this was the correct place when we arrived as it is now called the birdcage and not the purple peacock. The place was empty initially around 12:30pm on a bank holiday but picked up around 2pm when some groups joined for afternoon tea which looked lovely. Food was well presented and tasty but towards the end of my meal I found a piece of egg shell underneath the mash potato. Informed staff and they said they would pass the information on. Not sure where it was from as I had chicken, vegetables and mash.

The restaurant itself looked really pretty but the service was very poor. It took a long time for our drinks to arrive - when we enquired, the lady said it’s because we ordered 2 cocktails (I found this hard to believe as they only contain about 3 ingredients!) but when we checked again later, the person at the bar said she’d only just been given our drinks order. It wasn’t at all busy the whole time we were there so I’m not sure why service was so slow. Finally got drinks after around 20-25 minutes and the food was also very slow to come out. Longest wait-time I’ve ever experienced. However, the food was delicious when it finally did arrive, which is why I’ve given this 3 stars.

An afternoon tea booked 4 weeks in advance and no scones or cream available for my friend who is coeliac. Been here before and she had 2 warm scones and we had a pot of cream too. We will NOT recommend going

First time I've been but certainly not the last. Food was gorgeous and cooked perfectly. The staff were efficient, friendly and provided excellent service.

I would like to appreciate the most amazing and friendly young sweet staff ever, I didn’t catch her name but I think her name is Daisy, Jazzy or Jaithy! She was so helpful and kind to us. The afternoon tea was amazing as well. Must try because the customer service met my expectations.

food was great but the waiting time was unacceptable! we went to the spa and then adine in meal deal. for only 2 courses we waited nearly 3 hours! don't get me wrong some ordered starters and mains and other desserts but still in any other restaurant I have never spent more than hour 30 minutes on waiting for a full course. the excuse was that there was a venue on but if it would affect time this much for other customers you should of closed the restaurant and focused on the venue guest or hired separate staff! never have I experience such slow service.

Hope this is being taken as constructive criticism and not as a general moan. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive but the service was in our case let down by the long wait for the meals and the meals themselves.

We went here for the drunch deal. It was amazing from start to finish. Our server Eleanor was absolutely fantastic. So attentive, made sure we had the best time and she was literally the best girl! Thank you to Eleanor for making our experience amazing! You defo deserve some recognition for your outstanding customer service.
