Pets at Home Basingstoke

We purchased two male (more on that later) Guinea Pigs from Pets at Home for our children. One of the guinea pigs, within 4 weeks we had to take to their vet on site and was told it had a chest infection and prescribed anti biotics. A week later we had to take it back where it's heart stopped and died at the vet. They offered an autopsy which we did and it uncovered four different issues ranging from holes in the stomach, to lung issues to heart issues. We also found out that one of them was a female so they had sold us a male and a female, not two males as we thought. But aside from this, the most annoying factor was that what seemed the most important thing for the store was how we were going to pay the vets bill. Literally stood at the till 1 minute after the pig had died. Just what you want when you have two heart broken children crying when their new pet has just died. I am sure they see these animals all day, everyday, but have some compassion for the owners.

Great pet store for dogs and cats. Wouldn't recommend for reptiles or fish. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They recommend the app which has been a great help!

I went into pets at home basingstoke this weekend as I wanted to enquire about adopting a hamster from the adoption centre. Jack helped me from start to finish, he told me all the things I needed to get to make sure the hamster was happy, and he was very professional and knowledgeable. He helped me set up the app to get a new customer discount and he was very helpful. Well done Jack, asset to the team.

Really disappointed at getting to the Till with my purchases for a gold fish tank, only to be laughed and and humiliated in front of other customers by the girl at the till… really unpleasant experience which left me feeling embarrassed. I won’t be returning if that’s how they treat their customers.

My partner recently purchased a Cockapoo puppy and was worried that it had caught fleas and was under the weather. There was no vet's appointment available for 2 weeks for the puppy's shots, but the nurse agreed to give her a checkover, and treat it for worms and ticks etc at short notice.In addition to that, despite not having a vet's appointment, she arranged for the shots the same day, and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, giving advice on what we should and shouldn't do in a friendly way. The nurse's name was Natalie and we think she deserves a special mention for her obvious love of animals and the professionalism she showed.

Zoe is absolutely amazing with my Bailey, such a kind, loving and positive lady and very insightful with my boys needs. Zoe you are an absolute asset. Thanks again to all of you for being so caring!!

Great choice of pet supplies. Staff are lovely & all animal fans. Useful to have the vets on site.

Went to one of their My Pet Pal workshops with my 5 year old in the summer holidays. My daughter loved it, the lady Emily running it was really good with the kids and gave lots of great information. Holding some of the animals was great for the children.

Pets at home have changed their refund policy without properly informing consumers. Do not ask me if I want my receipt without informing me your refund policy has changed too.
