Great golf course, when dry, gets very boggy after lots of rain. Greenkeepers do a great job but lack funds for sand to improve bunkers, etc, because council run. Could be really great with investment of the actual course, drainage etc. Overpriced for weekend green fees at £31.

What has happened to Hartswood Golf Course, very very poor.Staff in Pro shop are rude and uninterested. Hadn’t played here for a good year or so and they still have temporary tee box on the first hole, over 2 years now! How long does it take to install a path and and get the course back to normal. Not worth my £25, won’t play there again.

A good municipal very mature tree line parkland course which had an easy walk with undulating & tight fairways. Fairways & Greens were in good condition, but if you run off the fairways into the 1st cut it is very easy to lose a ball. The 7th is a tough par 3 with a ditch in front of the green and over hanging tree branches. Some fairways have ponds, therefore course management comes into play.My only criticism of this course is the bunkers which are in poor condition (very little sand) Brentwood council are spending money improving the course.Practise chipping/ putting green. No driving nets.A very good course for the price will definitely play again. Also has a great pro shop with a huge selection of equipment and clothing.

Proper old school golf course. Brilliant layout. Need to shape the ball not overpower it. Nice to have to think your way round instead of smashing driver off every tee. Good condition for a public course. Improvements being made all the time. Great course.

For a municipal course, this place is fantastic. The fairways and greens were in great condition. Some of the bunkers were a little shabby, but given we are only a few weeks into being allowed on the course following the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, completely understandable. Whatever way you look from greens or fairways, the landscape of the course is so pleasing on the eye. Love playing here.

The shop is top notch. Now has a booking system online which is great. The course itself is unbelievable, for the price it's the best round of golf you'll play in Essex in my opinion: Greens are superb, variety of longer holes and shorter holes, picturesque water features, and some stunning backdrops to greens. Teeboxes are also as good as any essex golf club I've been too. If it were to cost £50 at a private members clubs you wouldn't bat an eyelid..

Great little municipal course with the back tees providing enough of a challenge for the low handicap golfer. They do a good twiighlight package throughout the autumn/winter. Small but friendly bar upstairs from the well stocked pro shop. There is also a good cafe for pre/post round food. Gets quite busy during peak hours and weekends, so plan your visit wisely (nothing worse than being stuck behind a drunken fourball on a Sunday afternoon!)

Very Well Presented Municipal Golf Course and good value for money. My only criticism is that they allow absolutely anybody to play it, and by anybody I mean people whom from what I witnessed looked as though they'd never swung a Club before, unfortunately this leads to one huge problem...SLOW PLAY and BAD GOLF ETIQUETTE which can quickly ruin an enjoyable round of golf.May I suggest Golfers starting out or those who can't hit further than 50yds stick to your par 3 courses or crazy golf for the time being.

For a council run course, this is such a lovely place.Usually at least 4 stars. But played here on 11th July and there were so many temp greens, it was a joke. It's not as though there had been a week of torrential downpours, so do not get it. Any essential maintenance could have been scheduled for when courses were closed. No reduction on green fees, yet the temp greens were tiny in area and were just cut a little shorter than the fairways, not flat, so not even greens at all in reality.Such a shame.
