We flew all the way from Texas for the best fish and chips in Scotland! Keith and Spencer are doing a fabulous job providing cook-to-order, brilliantly fresh seafood!

24th of September, I was in Edinburgh as a tourist. I visited this restaurant after a lot of research online, and it didn't disappoint. Ordering was fast and simple, food ready in 5-10 minutes after perfect frying on the spot. The owners/employees were extremely polite and professional. Fish crispy and juicy, potatoes creamy. I would recommend not skipping vinegard, as I did. It is crucial to properly balance flavour and texture.Never had such an amazing experience with this specific dish. Prices are extremely low and I imagine the restaurant works really hard to keep prices affordable. Service was just as much as needed, and if you want you can eat inside at the small table available. Normally you shouldn't eat in at takeaways, so be reasonable if you find some crumbles on the table. If I ever return to Edinburgh it will be my first go to restaurant. Thank you!!!

As someone who travelled all the way from Germany, stumbling upon 'The Chippy by Spencer' was a stroke of luck. It truly embodies the essence of a hidden gem—a place known and loved by locals but deserving of wider recognition. If you're in Edinburgh and looking for an authentic fish and chips experience, this is the place to be.One thing that truly impressed me was the portion size. 'The Chippy by Spencer' certainly doesn't skimp on generosity. The serving of Battered Haddock was more than substantial, leaving me fully satisfied and content. Accompanied by a generous helping of perfectly cooked chips, this meal was a true feast that left me wanting more.Battered Haddock turned out to be an absolute revelation. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew I had made the right choice. The haddock was fresh, tender, and succulent, enveloped in a crisp and golden batter that was nothing short of perfection. Each bite was an explosion of flavors, with the delicate fish complemented by the light, crispy coating. It was evident that The Chippy by Spencer takes pride in its attention to detail, as the batter was cooked to perfection, neither too greasy nor overpowering. If you find yourself in Edinburgh and craving a truly satisfying fish and chips experience, I highly recommend seeking out The Chippy by Spencer. With their delicious Battered Haddock and generous portions, it's a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered by locals and tourists alike. Your taste buds will thank you for this memorable culinary adventure.

I've long tried to find fish and chips in Scotland that reminds me of what I used to get back in Yorkshire. The fish here is fresh and chunky and the batter is crispy and almost melts when you're eating it. It's some of the best I've had.

I thought I'd had at least OK fish and chips in my life, then The Chippy completely opened my eyes to what excellent fish and chips could and should be. The battered haddock is one of the best things I've ever eaten. I also tried the Stornoway black pudding. It was very heavy but also delightful with the chutney. I didn't enjoy the chips at all, but I think I'm just not a fan of all UK style chips.Service was excellent. The gentleman at the register was patient in explaining a few options while ordering and also the options when the food was ready, like salt and vinegar, brown sauce, etc.Wish I could have a place half as good at home.
