Lovely river frontage and walks , dump the car a d you can walk for miles , pubs along the way for breaks , great views across to Wrabness and lots of birds and wildlife to enjoy. Paths are well kept and plenty if people out enjoying the hard work that must have gone in to creating this walk. There is so a marina if you wanted to sail here at Shotly and you can park and walk at many points around the peninsula. Highly recommended.

Shotley Heritage Park is a stunningly scenic walk aside the River Stour, incorporating riverside shingle beach & steep wooded cliff. The path is quite narrow & so is the waterside picnic area, with rather too many tables crammed together. However, it's an incredible location with a direct view across The Stour towards Harwich & Parkeston ferries. So an ideal place where to watch the Stena Line departures, as well as all the estuarine birdlife. Shotley Heritage Park is perfectly suited to hikers, dog walkers, birdwatchers, & scenic photographers...

SHOTLEY: FORSAKEN HEADLANDLeaving the town of Ipswich and we drive under the Orwell Bridge. This is a huge concrete span across River Orwell’s estuary. We enjoyed a bumper coffee and cake at the Suffolk Food Hall. We are now on a peninsular of Shotley. Shotley village was once home of HMS Ganges a navel-training establishment. In Shotley Village gaze out across the water and see two ports for the price of one view: Felixstowe and Harwich, Suffolk and Essex. Along the waterfronts gigantic container ships with Asiatic names bearing impossibly large numbers of containers on deck. Further along flat farmland land run up to the Orwell estuary’s edge, patrolled by birdlife: Curlew, Oystercatchers and cackling gulls. Sailing boats rest up for the winter.
