We were under Jo’s team for conveyancing for a recent home purchase. They were good communicators throughout and always let us know asap of any changes or abnormalities highlighted. Their defining moment was on the day of the planned exchange. This was due to be pushed back by our buyers, awaiting issues with paperwork and their solicitor. We contacted Jo’s team and informed them we were going to have to push the exchange and completion dates forward reluctantly if exchange could not be sorted that day, as we had to pay the movers deposit the same day. We were given a clear plan on what they were going to do and when we would be contacted, and dead on the clock, they rang with updates, and we were able to successfully exchange within a few hours of telling them our issue. We were so grateful it was all sorted that day and commend their commitment to ensure our move date would not be changed.Would recommend solely on the performance from that day!

I am struggling to believe that this firm has any positive reviews. I have had a long professional career and this has been the worst experience I have ever had with a services firm of any kind.The buyer of our flat used Howells, it took six months in total and we *very* nearly lost our onward purchase because of their lack of professionalism.Specifically, they simply refused to answer the phone, return calls or emails from our solicitors or estate agents, for many many weeks on end.On multiple occasions they requested documents that had already been sent to them, in some cases months earlier. One one occasion they continued to insist that they had not received a document, when in fact it just had a slightly different filename than expected. They just don't read things properly.When they did respond, their updates and explanations for delays were confusing, contradictory and economical with the truth.Avoid like the plague.

Excellent service, I received their support with my first house purchase. They were quick to respond, assisted me with understanding the legal jargon and were incredibly helpful all round. Would very much recommend for anyone who is after a good conveyancing solicitors.

Helped us with witnessing documents last year but this time wouldn't. Makes no sense. Your own representing solicitor can't witness their own documents & they have to be witnessed by a commissioner of oath who cannot be your client so these guys and 20 odd other solicitors either didn't understand what I was asking or are stupid because their reason was you're not a client". Very disappointed they refused to help."

We used Howells Solicitors (Caerphilly) for conveyancing in 2013 and 2017, and had a great experience both times. We then tried using them in 2021, but they seemed quite slow and sometimes didn't reply to emails/call back when they said they would (we knew generally about COVID delays in 2021, so we specifically asked if they had any capacity issues before hiring them, and they said they had no issues). So while their staff were friendly, it was disappointing to have quite a slow/delayed transaction regardless of us asking.A week ago, I then emailed Howells Newport (and 3 other firms) for a conveyancing quote. I had a very quick reply from the other 3 firms, but no reply at all from Howells Newport.Overall, my experience with Howells in 2021 and 2023 has therefore been much worse than my 2013 and 2017 experiences.
