Northampton railway station
Modern, spacious and a huge improvement on the old station. Northampton station provides links to both London Euston and Birmingham new street as well as Birmingham International Airport. The glasswork and exterior of the building is worth looking at as it is an excellent tribute to the great history of this town.

Parking prices are ridiculous!Would have given no stars but system won't let me.Wanted to drop a friend off but missed the train. OK, let's have coffee as the next train was due in 45 mins. So we went to pay for parking because we would be longer than the free 20 mins. £7.70 flat rate after the free period. NO WAY! Not even an hourly rate available. So not only did they loose out on the parking fee but we went elsewhere for coffee too.

It's an improvement on what it used to be, but it remains lacking in several areas. For example, the shops and cafes close in the early evening, despite trains coming and going until the small hours, leaving just the choice of the vending machines on the platforms. Also, a few people on here have complained about the staff on the ticket barriers being rude and inattentive - I couldn't agree more. Still, anything that allows you to get out of Northampton mustn't be sniffed at.

The service is in line with the average UK rail station but my fancy was the beautiful glass outlook of the station building and the giant boot statue.

Doors from the car park haven't worked for months now (it doesn't take MONTHS TO GET THESE FIXED) and today NO ticket machines downstairs were accepting card payments. It's on a downward spiral .Maybe they will ignore all maintenance until the building drops down.

Station is improved, but car parking is frankly a joke. Have spent up to 80 minutes driving around / waiting for a space. Unless you travel very early AM or after lunch, find another option because mid AM parking is nigh on impossible.Note the 'temporary' multi level car park could easily be expanded to add a further level on top given that it's akin to heavy duty meccano. Quite why no one has bothered to do this yet and alleviate some of the obvious shortfall in parking spaces is beyond me.

When Starbucks and WHSmith are both closed, it would be great if there was a self service coffee machine! Simple things make happy travellers early in the morning or late at night!

Outraged by the staff at Northampton train station who dealt with my mother this evening. She was overcharged, refused a return ticket which would have been cheaper. Patronised and shown absolutely no respect whatsoever. I suggest you review your customer facing staff's training. That says it all really!!

All the money that has been spent on the new station but there are no facilities to be able to get any sort of drink early morning or late at night. It would be nice to be able to get a cuppa to take on your journey especially as there is no buffet cart on the trains either.
