Before I get into the rooms and noise I want to make it clear that every single of member of staff at the hotel were excellent. We were treated with absolute professionalism throughout. However, the noise travels through the walls of this hotel significantly so don't expect to get much sleep if you are next to the stairs. My sister had to move from room 213 as the drains were smelling disgusting. She was moved to room 212 which had the restaurant extractor unit outside. This made her room smell like a fish and chip shop all night. What makes it worse is the single glazed window to this room.I stayed in room 223 which was perfect.

Dropped off out daughter at university and stayed overnight. Great location, nice breakfast and we were able to park in the hotel car park. immaculate rooms. Staff are very helpful and special mention for Cheryl who sorted out our shower very efficiently thank you. Definitely will use again when visiting Newcastle

The Cairn hotel is extremely well situated in the Jesmond area of Newcastle. A beautiful suberb within walking distance of the city with a vibrant life with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. The West Jesmond Metro station is an easy 7 minute walk from the Cairn Hotel.Reception staff were friendly and efficient and check-in was very easy. Don't let the stairs to the rooms put you off as they are a little worn and a hoovering wouldn't have went a miss. The rooms are compact but are well appointed having everything you need for your stay. House keeping is very good and the rooms were kept clean throughout our stay. The adjoining bar was a great place to relax and the Mexican influenced menu had a reasonable variety of choice. The food was good and there were good bar offers with a wide choice of drinks.A nice hotel for a weekend in the Newcastle area.

Fab rooms at a really reasonable price. Superior rooms are well worth the upgrade and booking direct brings a lot of perks too! We will be back (for the third time!)

This hotel was very disappointing. We stayed in a standard double room in the building across the street. This building is WAY less beautiful than the main buildingWe paid a lot, it was rhe most expensive hotel I had ever booked because of the Great North Run (340 GRP for 2 audults 2 night). The room was ok, but very small. It was SUPER HOT in our hallway and room. I slept terrible, even when it was cool outside. We only got one small fan which made a lot of noise. You can hear everything in the hallway. The doors make a lot of noise and have to fall into lock so a lot of noise.A lot of things were broken and very badly fixed (see pictures). The night stand was full of dust. The breakfast is okay, but there was not enough staff, so they had to work so hard to keep up with the food. When we arrived, we were lucky iur room was ready earlier. The lady behind the reception was friendly and got us someone to guide us to our room. But he was quiet fast, just crossed the street randomly, assuming we would follow and had his e-sigaret in his hand.Either fix everything or make the hotel cheaper.

Great location, great staff: that’s about where it ends unfortunately. Extremely loud room, it felt like I was living under the staircase, hearing every single step, door open, close, tap and the many creaks of the clearly dated Carlton building of this hotel. Mould on shower curtain, hair in bath presumably from previous guest, worn and aged bathroom with cracks and gaps where there shouldn’t be. You get what you pay for, I wouldn’t risk it personally unless you specifically request a quiet room (which to my regret, I assumed wouldn’t be necessary). Am not usually a reviewer, but I felt compelled this time round.

This hotel is perfectly positioned. If staying there I upgrade the room and always reasonable charge. The carpark is small and requires double po asking but the hotel have a system to make sure there is no problem. Staff always very friendly rooms immaculately clean

We stayed at Cairn in West Jesmond as a family (two rooms) when participating in the great north run.Check in was fine until we were told our room was over the road, where we discovered that the hotel rooms are situated above a trio of night clubs. The thumping music from below kept us awake as we tried to get an early nights rest ahead of the race (but don’t worry…they do give you complimentary earplugs). The rooms are cramped and the carpet was filthy so hasn’t been hoovered between guests. If you’re unfortunate enough to be on the top floor your room will be around 500 degrees with a fan to push the hot air around the room. We were genuinely left with the only option to be able to sleep or cooling ourselves down with damp ringed out towels. The staff on check out could not care less for our reasons for leaving, though I suppose they hear this on the daily. We were due to stay here for three nights but immediately checked out after the first night after the race and went to stay at the terrific Crowne Plaza hotel in central Newcastle (highly recommend). We had one breakfast out of three, due to leaving after the first night. Breakfast is a limited selection (though the pastries were nice). Despite only staying for one night and paying an additional £30pp for breakfast their management offered a refund of £30 (one days breakfast). Please do not stay here.To summarise:- facilities poor- rooms are unbelievably hot- staff are not helpful- management refused to discuss or entertain any kind of refund and didn’t apologise for our experience- pastries were nice- close to metro

Nice for overnight stay, well located but in need of refreshment. some lights, bathroom radiator, boothroom extractor did not function, outside gutter leaked, musty smell on bathroom, room door and bathroom door prone to jamming. Weak signal on room TV making most channels unwatchable. Due to small number of parking spaces it is necessary to double park so easy to get blocked in. On the positive side breakfast service was good, food was good, the adjoining bars were not obtrusive and is close to various retaurants
