Cygnet Hospital Derby
My beautiful 36 year old daughter Nina Elaine Berry died as a result of being clozipine at this hospital. She suffered mental illness most of her life. Nina was transferred to this hospital in May 2014 she died in October 2014, due to being given this drug. The reason I've not put a review on this site is that I wanted to know exactly what happened to her and wanted to wait for the inquest. This was held early this month and the hospital was found that in September when my Nina was started on clozipine did not care for her properly and she should not have been given clozipine at this time however the jury decided she had died from a rare but known complication of a necessary medical procedure. Talk about contradicting yourself. I am unhappy that the doctors responsible for giving this clozipine to her did not care about the fact that Nina has lost her life they wanted to cover their backs in fact they told lies to the inquest. Also one of these doctors, Dr gethins slagged off Nina's family in her statement lots of which was untrue and at the inquest she really wanted to lay blame to us. We felt uncomfortable at the inquest as we were obviously mostly ignored as if we didn't matter. Though I cannot fault the coroners summing up pity the jury wasn't hearing what we were hearing, My point is that my beautiful daughter died as a result of being given clozipine this drug stripped her of her immune system so she couldn't fight this infection we had to watch her die. Nina spent the last 2 weeks of her life on a ventilated in the Royal Derby intensive care unit and I thank them for their care if her life could have been saved they would have done they tried so hard. As for cygnet hospital these 2 doctors egos are more important to them than their patients as my daughter's treatment and death proved. One more thing apparently Nina was pulling her hair out early in September 2014 so they cut it short, according to them I saw Nina on her birthday on 23rd September her hair qas not cut her head had been SHAVED I was disgusted by this treatment of her. I and my family are heartbroken at the loss of Nina with more care this wouldn't have happened I am not happy of the way she was treated.

Service users go to Cygnet to get worse or the hospital refused to discharge them when they no longer meet legal requirements to be sectioned. They enforce extreme unnecessary restrictions on service users causing further emotional and physical distress. They state that services user care is a priority but fact is, they are just more money in a bed. The more challenging a service user, the more money Cygnet get, no allowing for patient mix at all!Do not allow your loved one to go here, worst thing that will ever happen to them.

I would not recommend this place to anyone my sister Nina Berry died within 4 months of being placed here due to being given Clozapine. That she should not have been started on in the first place.
