Meikleour Beech Hedge
This is the tallest hedge in the world.....a part of Scottish history.....Planted in 1745....the Autumn before the Battle of Culloden in April the next spring. How anyone could rate this at less than 5 stars is beyond me. One would have to be very cynical indeed. This hedge has survived through an amazing timeline. It is something that everyone should take the time to see. It's imposing and awe-inspiring and well worth saving. A big THANK YOU to the Meikleour Trust for maintaining and preserving this important part of history.

Gigantic! Driving on the A93 from Perth to Blairgowrie (or vice versa) you will pass a very remarkable hedge along the way. The Meikleour Beech Hedges (European Beech - Fagus sylvatica) were planted in the autumn of 1745 by Robert Murray Nairne and his wife Jean Mercer and with a length of 530 meters and a height of 30 meters this hedge is rightly listed in the Guinness World Records . Very impressive, but I'm glad I don't have to trim this hedge :)
