Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa
We stayed here for three nights after loving it so much last year and wanting to come back for more! Despite a slight mix-up with rooms on arrival, this was very quickly fixed and I loved that we were able to use the spa before our room was ready, meaning we weren’t hanging around. The spa is clean and aesthetically stunning, and although the spa treatments were a little expensive I didn’t feel we needed them to fully relax as the whole hotel is dedicated to the peaceful atmosphere.Midhurst is beautiful but I’m not sure that we could have stayed for much longer without wanting to explore some other nearby towns or attractions. As Sussex locals anyway, we had no desire to venture beyond Midhurst, but I’m not sure there’s loads to do after a couple of days exploring.Breakfast was delicious, however the continental choice wasn’t vast - we were told that the delivery hadn’t come so 2/3 of our mornings it was a bit sparse. The hot breakfast was lovely and luxurious, but although the staff were very attentive I did feel irritating having to keep asking for different things (oat milk, more butter etc.)!The rooms are beautiful and clean, and I slept very well which is rare for me in a hotel! If I were to make one change it would be that the rooms had mini fridges - I understand the concern is that they might take away from the rustic style of the room, but I’m sure it would save the staff having to constantly bring milk up to your room, and also would have been handy as a place to keep cold drinks especially in this heatwave!Lovely, friendly staff and a beautiful escape.

It was our wedding anniversary . the starter was lovely then it went badly wrong the Moroccan lamb was as tough as old boots..I sent it back only for it to be repeated again.. also other tables sent it back too.. we all got refunded..the mousse desert wasn't very good either I had the cheese board which was not good either..it was a Thursday maybe that's the reason..but not recommended

We had a lovely stay, booked last minute. We had dinner and breakfast and the food and service were very good. They had a good gluten free selection and allergen information available. We also enjoyed an evening sat in the lounge by the fire which was very comfortable and atmospheric. We enjoyed using the spa facilities (my only critique would be that there aren't quite enough chairs if there are 10+ people using the facilities). The staff were very accommodating and we were very comfortable and happy during our stay. We will book again and look forward to out next visit.

The spread eagle hotel and spaPositives- the hotel decor was very cosy and beautiful- rooms were spacious and had very large comfy beds- pool facilities were great and spacious- hotel staff very helpful and friendly- bar area is very cosy- location is a very pretty and quiet location- food, wine and service was greatNegatives- the room carpet was heavily stained with tea due to there not being a proper table for tea making facilities- there were a large number of children at this hotel. Although we don’t have problems with this normally, it did ruin our dinner experience when one child was crying throughout. We could see other guest becoming agitated. Nearly all other guests were couples on a getaway (including us). This hotel isn’t very suitable for children as it’s very adult natured with fine dining and spa facilities. It’s far from your average family hotel especially as people are paying a lot of money for a countryside posh hotel.- although the pool and facilities were great, we struggled to enjoy the pool/sauna/hot tub due to the amount of children diving and screaming in it. Although the hotel does have designated times for children to use the pool, it was difficult for us to use the adult timings as they would’ve clashed with our plans.Personally, this hotel would be better off as an adults only hotel. We couldn’t use the spa facilities due to it being fully booked so we can comment on that.

Visited for a spa day. Lovely facilities, it's not huge, and the changing rooms are far too small but there is a nice pool, sauna, steam and jacuzzi in a nice surrounding. They would benefit from more pool loungers or in keeping with the crowded changing rooms perhaps should take less guests. That aside we had afternoon tea in the lounge which really was delicious and came with a lovely glass of English sparkling wine. Nice treatments in a relaxing area. Very enjoyable day.

A lovely hotel with a small but well equipped spa. The food, room and staff were all excellent. Thanks for a great stay.

My wife and I had a fantastic spa break at the Spread Eagle. The hotel just popped up on Google whilst looking for a spa hotel and we're really glad it did! Set in the middle of beautiful Midhurst, the town and hotel have so much history it's almost daunting. The staff are so friendly and efficient. I made an error when booking online and a quick call to the hotel (late evening) and it was quickly rectified with a confirmation email following immediately. We arrived early and were invited to use the spa until our room was ready. Instead we had a little explore of the lovely town and got an email when our room was ready. We spent a couple of hours before dinner in the spa. The pool is just the right temperature, the steam room really efficient and the jacuzzi beautifully invigorating. Unfortunately the sauna was out of order. We mentioned prior to arrival that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We were delighted to find that we received a room upgrade and a complimentary drink in the bar!The room itself was as far away from a cookie cutter 'Travelodge' style as you can get! A huge four poster bed (with a step to get on!), dark wood panelling and uneven floors.I'm currently writing this lying on the bed waiting for our room service breakfast. Although the dining room looks lovely, there was a wedding here yesterday and it'll probably be really busy. We decided to take advantage of the offer to have breakfast in our room (more romantic anyway!)All in all, a great stay in a great location. One final mention for the amazing warmth, efficiency and friendliness of all the staff - thank you very much and we'll definitely be back!

Room was small and a bit like granny’s attic but clean. Shower had a mind of its own. Staff were lovely and attentive but a lot of money if you don’t intend to use the spa.

Ample parking.Very old, rustic country / coach house style hotelRoom26 on the first floor.Small room, nice country style interior with floral themes , wood and botanic prints art work on the wall.Comfortable beds. Very Small toilet.Tea/coffee making , nespreso machine. Not much of a view from the roomsNeed black Out curtains. It does not block out the light in summer.Spa slippers and robe for the spa.Noise of guest talking from room 25.Breakfast - fairly disappointing.Buffet pre cooked meals with inadequate bowls, two croissants at any time- such simple fixes to makes sure that it’s seem less. One morning there was an actual queue waiting for bowls.Breakfast Cooked meal disappointing- full English was poor, sausages and bacon were below average. Salmon and scrambled eggs again below average- Salmon quality low with strips of brown fat, scrabbled eggs that did not taste of much. Thankfully cappuccino was average as the tea was absolutely indrinkable with high levels of tannin and bitter. slow Waitering was another issues- to the point we left before our cappuccino and water could arrive- orders whilst having the cooked breakfast.Spa with pool- nice other than kids taking it over.Jacuzzi very small just about big enough for two persons with legs stretched out.tanning area nice but does not get sun all the time,Small portions have sun in the afternoon.Gym is well equipped but cramped.Dining area rustic- three course dinner is serviced for residence at £42.50.Price to value below average unfortunately; overpriced.

I can't say enough good things about the Spread Eagle! We chose this lovely historical hotel as the venue for our small 40-person wedding, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. We had our ceremony, wedding breakfast & evening reception in the hotel's Jacobean Hall, plus its adjacent garden. The Hall itself is already beautiful and atmospheric, and looked absolutely stunning on our wedding day, decked out in florals and greenery. Dinner service was impeccable – delicious food brought out on time, and polite, attentive staff. My husband and I stayed in one of the hotel's tastefully decorated suites after the wedding, as did half of our guests who flew in from abroad. Many mentioned that the rooms were so nice and comfortable at breakfast the next morning.I also want to give a big shout-out to Sarah, the amazing General Manager, who not only walked us through every detail of our wedding, but also acted as our Day-Of Coordinator! :) Our special day went so smoothly, and both our local and international guests enjoyed themselves greatly, thanks to the efforts and thoughtfulness of the staff.Amazing memories were made, and we'll definitely be back for anniversaries – or just the casual drink!
