Went for Sunday lunch. Lamb was amazing, chicken was dry and stuffing was awful. Good selection of veg, generous portions and courteous staff.Peter - update to your reply - yes, i think we would know if we were in the Wellington, lol, it must have beef that my friend had then. Thanks for the offer of a drink.

Great quality food. Here’s a pic or my £17.50 fish and chips so you can make your own judgement. Edit - having read the response, I should agree there was tartar sauce included and lemon which are shown in the photo. But still this photo that includes less than 10 chips is what was served.

Family Meal, Monday evening...table for 9, as far as I'm aware, we were the only diners. Our server was great, really attentive, helpful and diplomatic when it came to issues with the food.First off, most of the starters were unavailable..Several main courses were off as well so choices were limited. Two of us had steak..rare.Shoe leather comes to mind....so much sinew and fat, it was literally inedible..We flagged it with our server, who was brilliant, and we were offered a drink to compensate, but you have to question why a chef would not realise the meat was so bad in the first place. The rest of the food was OK, not outstanding, average presentation and lacking attention to detail. All in all a disappointing experience food wise..The Welly is a great boozer, but the food needs a serious kick in the butt!

Lovely Sunday lunch. The Welly used to be our local so nice to pop back in and it was such a nice atmosphere and great place for a relaxing lunch instead of a heaving pub, although shame for them it wasn't busier. Service great, food was delicious, great portions and good coffee. Lots of delicious looking menu choices for all tastes which isn't often the case on a Sunday. Only negative is too full for dessert but squid starter was worth it. Would definitely come again!

Don't go in to listen to quiz shows full blast. Myself and other tables moved away to quieter spots.Waited 30 minutes in the restaurant to be acknowledged and no one was forthcoming so left.Lovely building but shoddy service does it a disservice.Come on St Austell you can do better.

Came here for Sunday roast and it was abysmal. Potatoes were brown, purple, and undercooked in the middle, turkey was gristly and cold, vegetables tasted like they’d been cooking since last week and it was not worth £16 a head. The Yorkshire Pudding was really good, but that was about it. Drinks took ages to arrive and arrived after the food, and we kept being asked whether we had ordered and whether everything was okay. The ‘rustic’ table we sat at had rusty exposed nails that I scratched my arm on and the whole place was almost empty and very cold. Potatoes also said they came with rosemary and thyme but they were completely flavourless. I do not recommend The Wellington for Sunday Roast.

Been a few times for dinner and drinks. Good screens for the rugby. Lovely food. Excellent staff. It's a good local (and nice place to take the parents!).

Everything was as expected. The room was well furnished and the bed was comfy. There was some noise from outside earlier in the evening but that cleared up by about 11. The bar is well stocked with tons of choices. I had a sweet cider that was excellent. The fish and chips were top notch and a good portion size.

A really mixed bag of poor service, nice food and meat only fit for the dogs.We arrived and were seated quickly which was good.Drinks were ordered quickly and brought to the table by a lovely server. This was good.We ordered our food and then waited over 25 minutes for them to be brought to the table. This was bad.The squid was soft and tasty and the scotch eggs were good and bad… one was really tasty and the other seemed like it had been left under the lamps too long as the yolk was congealed and the dusting of chopped herbs looked dry. When I asked the small chap serving us why it took so long and if he had something to say his replay was mumbled along the lines of “that’s just how it is… we’re really busy and have lots of reservations”You’ll see from the pictures how busy it was! That was the first “ugly” moment. The roast dinners arrived and things looked up. Great looking yorkshire puddings that were clearly home made, lovely stacks of meat and roast potatoes on each plate. Then came the veg in plentiful supply, all cooked beautifully and presented well. My only question here is why the braised red cabbage? (Nobody ate it.)The pork belly was pretty good if a little bland but the beef was so bad we ended up taking the meat back for the dogs… it was like eating chewy jelly and very poorly prepared. I’ve yet to hear if the dogs turned their noses up.Time to leave… we asked for the bill… the same rather short and rude server came with the card machine asking me how we’d like to pay… I suggested he might like to show me the bill first as I’d like to see how much it was… he wandered off muttering. If customer service isn’t his thing then I suggest he finds a different career path.It was then left to his colleague to bring us the bill and after a conversation with the manager he was very open to a reduction in the bill for the poor service.Possibly too open as we’d already heard another diner complaining about the same thing. All in all I wouldn’t go back as there are far better options locally and I’d suggest you look elsewhere too.
