Karen’s pictures are a dream! We’re from Germany and travelled to Scotland with our friends to renew our wedding vows outdoors. Our wedding planner recommended Karen and we were delighted to book her as our wedding photographer. We stayed at Dunnet Head Lighthouse on the North Coast 500 and held our ceremony on the clifftop there. Karen travelled from Inverness and arrived early to plan the photographs. She took so many beautiful images, capturing all our emotions, our baby daughter, and the beautiful scenery at the cliffs and on the beach. She was really accommodating and was happy for us to take a break part way through the photos to tend to the baby, and was happy to use our suggested location, Dunnet Beach, for more pictures. We love the photos so much and can absolutely recommend Karen Thorburn Photography to anyone planning to elope to Scotland!

I recently booked Karen to photograph my granny’s 90th birthday afternoon tea at the Kingmsills Hotel in Inverness. I was still firming up my plans when I first reached out to Karen, but she gave me a few photography packages to choose from, which was really helpful. I live in California but Karen made the whole booking process as easy as possible for me. She also took the time to learn the names of the key members of my family, and made sure the right people were standing together in the family photos. The event was so special and Karen’s photos are a wonderful record of it! Karen captured everything I’d asked for – the décor, my granny’s reaction when she walked into her surprise party, candid photos of everyone mingling and enjoying themselves, the cake cutting, and group photos. Highly recommended!

My husband and I are from Pennsylvania and we travelled to Scotland last month to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary! I first reached out to Karen back in the summer and she helpfully suggested some locations in Inverness for our couple’s photoshoot. We chose Ness Islands and Karen reassured us that this location would look great in late fall and that she would be flexible and work around the weather, which put our minds at rest. On the day, things overran at the hair salon but Karen was understanding and made sure we weren’t stressed. She put us at ease from the first moment and we so enjoyed our photoshoot with her and Mark, who was helping with lighting. We had fun, were totally comfortable, and felt a genuine connection with Karen and Mark. We appreciated Karen’s commitment to getting the best results, by gently guiding us and taking time to fix my dress, and so on. We love the photographs – they are absolutely lovely, and with lots of variety. We’ll definitely get in touch in future when we’re over from the States with our kids; we’d love to do a family photoshoot at another location in the beautiful Scottish Highlands! Karen was a delight to work with and I highly recommend her for a family photo session. Friendly, flexible & talented! The Inverness Hotel gave me her name in advance of our visit. She responded timely to my inquiry and provided very professional information & guidance on the photo session, along with beautiful locations. Due to unpredictable weather, she suggested we have a date" and a "backup". So glad we did as we ran into some car troubles so her flexibility saved us as we had to change both the location (Beauly Priory ended up being an absolutely perfect setting as I wanted lots of stone) & timing. Photo Day came and it all ran smoothly - I had explained personalities (some not thrilled with a photo session)

Karen was such a fantastic wedding photographer for our wedding in October at Mar Lodge Estate, Braemar. Karen was great at communicating prior to the wedding, responding to emails quickly and we had great video call a few weeks before the wedding which really helped prepare us for the photography on the day.Prior to the wedding Karen scouted out locations at the venue so that on the day she was ready with lots of ideas for different spots. This really helped and saved lots of time on the day. Also the day before the wedding we met in person with Karen and did a walk through of the wedding photo spots which helped ease any nerves and also make a firm plan for the day.On the day Karen was so lovely and accommodating and put us at ease. She moved around the venue photographing the small details and taking candid photos of the bridal party getting ready which was perfect! She was great at keeping to her timings and capturing everything I had asked for.During the ceremony and reception Karen was great at giving direction to us and guests for photos, this helped us move through the couples and formal photos smoothly giving us more time with our guests at the reception.Karen continued taking candid, natural photos throughout the rest of the day getting a really good range of photos of different guests and wedding events and decor. I particularly love the photos Karen took of us and all the guests dancing and felt the photos really captured the day!Within a week we had 10 photos back from Karen which was lovely to have and we had the rest of our photos within a month. The turn around time on the photos was amazing and really appreciated as it meant the wedding memories were still fresh when we got our photos.Overall Karen was a fantastic photographer to have at our wedding and I would recommend her to anyone looking for natural and relaxed photos to treasure from your wedding day.

We are a German family and we travelled to Scotland for our very small wedding at the Coul House Hotel near Inverness in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. Our wedding planner recommended Karen Thorburn Photography and we were thrilled to have her at our wonderful wedding! We just needed a photographer for the afternoon, and this was enough time for Karen to capture the final stages of us getting ready, as well as the ceremony, and photographs of us and our son outdoors afterwards. We asked Karen if she could recommend anywhere nearby with mountain scenery and she took us to Knockfarrel, which had beautiful views to the mountains and countryside. The photos are really amazing, we love each of them! Karen really did great work! Every time we look at the photos we feel happy as we remember our special day and are very grateful to Karen for capturing it so perfectly!

Karen was fantastic to work with from the very start- professional, great communication and friendly and kind. She gave really good tips for wedding planning; lots of things I hadn't thought of but I made changes according to her recommendations like booking an AirBnB for getting ready to allow for plenty of room and light. Karen took on board all of our ideas for photos and we came up with plans together- the wedding was at Bogbain Farm and it doesn't have the best light but Karen came to the venue the day before to thoroughly prepare which was fab! She captured our day perfectly, from getting ready, to candid photos of the guests, to the ceremony and reception. So many guests have got in touch to say how much they love our photos! Karen was so understanding and flexible when I needed to take time to look after our baby girl when I should have been available for photos. It was so lovely that she had toys with her to try to make her laugh for the photos. I would highly recommend Karen as a wedding photographer; she was so genuine, hard working and friendly, she really contributed to our day going as smoothly as it did! We really love our photos and the finished album is great quality. Thank you so much!

Karen is a fantastic photographer. Coming from abroad, she blew my expectations out of the water and I feel so lucky that I found her! She took us to unique locations along Loch Ness, and in Inverness. She captured the beauty of the location and of the ceremony (Highland Escape) and took the time to get all the wedding details I wanted captured. She was so kind and took the time to listen to the poses and images I wanted. When I got the pictures back, I was speechless. She is so talented and creative and I don't think anyone else could have done as good a job as she did. The quality and quantity of images was exceptional. I will cherish these photos for the rest of my life and I can't wait to return to Inverness and takes some more pictures with her!

Karen was an absolutely wonderful photographer for our small Inverness wedding. She came early to setup and was so patient with all of the last minute craziness that comes with a wedding. She was flexible with our plans on the day of the event, extremely professional, and provided us truly amazing photos. The after event shoot felt natural and she provided excellent direction.
