This auction house is the best in Edinburgh. The reason is not because it has the best items per say, but it's items that are actually affordable. Other auctions in town require minimum bids of £300-400+. We've been going to this auction for over a year now. I've filled our two-bedroom flat with antiques and I encourage all of my friends to never purchase from stores and only buy from here!Check their website every Wednesday as they update the catalogue online for the following Saturday auction.

If I could leave no stars I would, their customer service is beyond shocking.

Shocking customer service and rude staff. Do not use!!We tried to bid for an item and discovered we had been banned. On calling auction house, they said it was because we hadn’t collected a previous item. The previous item was during restrictions when we couldn’t travel much and we were in communication with them. Somebody offered to drop the lot off and we gratefully accepted. On the day of the last auction my husband had the the most awful woman on the phone who said that they wouldn’t accept a bid unless he promised to pick up the lot by the Monday. My husband was calm and respectful and she started saying that she didn’t like his attitude (I could hear her on the other end of the phone!) My husband apologised for nothing, to placate her. She eventually agreed to take a bid if we emailed the amount we were willing to pay. With 2 mins before our lot we plucked a figure out of the air and sent it. We lost the bid by about £20 because we couldn’t bid anymore than we emailed. The whole situation was very badly handled and rudely. I sent an email to Martin Cornish regarding this matter and never go t a reply. They really couldn’t care less. I would advise everybody to go elsewhere.

It's ok for fairly common antiques, easy-to-value items and household furnishings. But if you have something unusual and potentially high value to sell (especially paintings, oriental ceramics, etc) check with an expert (e.g. one of the big auction houses) first. I have seen occasional serious errors of identification/valuation here due to lack of knowledge.

Please do not use this auction house. By their own admission items from my late father’s Estate were lost and artwork misappropriated. When queried the response was defensive and no acknowledgment or apology offered. This appalling service has caused unnecessary distress at an already difficult time,

As a seller I had a terrible experience with this auctioneer. I paid £100 for their van to collect a van load. They divided all items up over about 8 weeks of auctions so it was difficult to keep track of what was selling. But I monitored the website versus what they were telling me in sales report. Three large pieces of furniture sold according to their website, but never appeared on my report from them. When I questioned it, they just said they still had them and would be sold in following weeks sales. However, they never appeared in another sale. They kept fobbing me off until I gave up. I’m sure the same happened for many of the smaller pieces but it is impossible to keep track as they don’t list everything they pick up from you. I’m sure they are making plenty by not paying the seller at all for some items. This on top of the hefty fees to both buyer and seller. Not to be trusted at all.

Started using the Ramsay Cornish auctions recently (buying) every time I arrive always helpful and nice. Welcoming and positive.Recently bought a lot of items and porter who helped me load up couldn’t have been anymore helpful. I’ve used a few auction house around the Edinburgh area but would recommend this one!Thanks again and hope to continue to buy from yous in the future.

We have become huge fans of Ramsay Cornish! The selection is constantly changing and generally of exceptionally good quality. I do recommend checking out the items in person if you can. We have purchased many items over the last several years including mirrors, chandeliers, furniture, and artwork. Staff has always been helpful and professional.

Really terrible. Do not trust them with your belongings or your money! He lied when I asked him about my sale items and he hadn’t catalogued all my items against my details. In other words he would sell my items and keep the money not just from Thursday sale but also from Saturday sale. He told me he wouldn’t put any perishable items outside on Thursday sale if it was raining. I went along to check and I’ll my delicate items were in torrential rain. Had been raining non stop since day before. So he put them out while it was raining. Silk screen prints, books, wooden furniture with fabric and textiles in the heavy rain. The staff were embarrassed at their bosses dishonest and strange behaviour. Red faces all round except for Ramsay Cornish. Dishonest person and not to be trusted!
