Haven't eaten here for a number of years as it was not really a pleasant experience. We have had a great surprise now the food is delicious, hot & well presented. An excellent selection of draught beers, wines & spirits. We found the menu had good variety & prices to suit most budgets. We will return.

Brilliant little pub. Cosy and comfortable atmosphere. We went for Christmas dinner in a group of 8. The food was brilliant and the service was very warm and attentive

A friend recommended I retry st James tavern, so I did, with three friends. We had a fabulous meal, fresh local ingredients really well cooked. Really reasonable prices for the meal and the drinks. One of the best meals I've had in Winchester for a while. The toblerone pudding it amazing!

Works Christmas meal last night and it was excellent. The food was beautiful, all three courses were exceptionally good, beautifully cooked and presented and the service we had as a group of 18 was excellent as well, highly recommended.

Friendly, welcoming pub on the outskirts of the city.I haven't eaten there but food looks good with a sensible menu including gluten free options.Occasional live music, regular quiz night and other social events.Water bowls for dogs too.Edit, since writing the above I've eaten at the SJT. Great GF burger. No fuss, no CC worries. Really good burger with fries. Fab.

Best dinner menu for a long time! We ordered the special menu (only available 2 days a week) and this was the best restaurant dish we had for quite some time. Excellent product quality and creative (but not overdone) cooking. Atmosphere is relaxed and you are not rushed to leave the table after 2 hours (as indicated on the reservation form). We can highly recommend the pub. We came again for to order from the standard menu which was nice, too. But the special dinner menu is better.

Ideal local pub. Excellent food with the Sunday roast being stunning. Nice pink beef and massive Yorkshire pudding.. Sticky toffee pudding great. Pub also good for just a drink. Great quiz night on Tuesday

Thought it was a nice pub witha good selection of real ales. Friendly staff, a nice interior and beer garden to when the weather is dry

Very welcoming staff and excellent pints. Great atmosphere in the pub too. Well worth the walk up from the town centre
