Steve is a fantastic instructor. He’s patient and helps everyone individually as well as the group to ensure everyone is keeping up and understanding what they are doing. I have known Steve since he started up the training in Devon and it’s been my pleasure to see him go from strength to strength in his venture.

I have trained in martial arts for fifty years and have in the last year enjoyed training with and learning from Steve, the combat juitsu sensei (teacher). He has great ability, is caring and helpful to all his varied students regardless of their differences and brings an enthusiasm that is infectious. A serious art with genuine purpose but not without being made fun and inclusive to learn.A great class your anyone. Try it ... and stay.

It’s a really friendly and fun atmosphere here at the club , it’s always interesting to learn more things every time you go , everybody is always really happy to help you out and you’re bound to make some friends too , it’s a right laugh but can also be challenging which adds another layer of fun to the club too , the sensei Steve is a brilliant sensei and he can be really understanding and funny too which can put you at ease if you feel nervous. I’d highly recommend the club if you’re looking for a fun time and challenge that’s worth it !

My 2 boys have been training with the club now for over 2 yrs and love it!!! , We have been part of a few different martial arts clubs over the past 8yrs in the barnstaple area and combat Jujitsu Ryu is an awesome club. Sensei Steve is a very good trainer and his instruction is disciplined, clear , professional, and also fun for everyone from adults down to my 8yr old. This club isn't about taking your money and grading you as quickly as possible, you're graded when Steve knows you're ready and not before, which I like. The club also has some great regular guest instructors from other local martial arts clubs to boost knowledge and technical techniques. I can honestly say I see my boys staying with the club for many years to come.Give it a try.

My teenage daughter started going to jujitsu two months ago with her Uncle, to help with her self confidence. She is generally shy with strangers and doesn’t like being in groups of people she doesn’t know, however Sensei Steve and the rest of the group made her feel welcome straight away. She loves going and is so excited and jujitsu nights. It has helped with her self confidence, focus and general fitness as well as her enjoyment in PE at school - which she normally hates. Sensei Steve is patient and kind when she is nervous about trying certain new moves, and always gives her the courage and confidence to try. They are such a supportive group and I would recommend them to anyone.

I've recently joined the dojo to cross train and complement my Aikido, and have found the club to be a very welcoming place. The techniques are honest and taught well with no shortage of willing training partners. This is a great club for martial artists of all levels, whether just starting out or a more experienced practitioner. The mix of different arts is really interesting, highly recommended.

My son was training at an club where we used to live and was beginning to enjoy it very much, sadly we moved and it was just too far to get there. Since moving to Barnstaple he tried a couple of other places, but they all seemed a little thrown together. but then he tried here. he has really been enjoying it for a fair few months now, and looks forwards to a Monday and Thursday evening so he can go trainingit's a very friendly club, with not only a friendly and knowledgeable Sensei, Steve McNeill, but all the other adults and children are very welcoming and encouraging to their fellow Martial Artists. If you're looking for a Martial arts family to join. This is highly recommended, and the only regret you'll have is you didn't try it sooner.

I cannot recommend this dojo enough. Sensei Steve is amazingly patient, shows fantastic empathy for differences in learning, loves what he does, but above all holds phenomenal knowledge and skill regarding his clear passion. The environment created by the Sensei and the students, provides a great dojo, with friendly and nurturing surroundings with nothing but positive energies. My daughter adores her time here.

it has taken me a while to post on here as wanted to make sure i gave a true representation of the club and my experiences over the past 3/4 years. I can't remember exactly how long. when i 1st joined the club i was very nervous about what i was coming into having recently left another club after 6 months as the sensei could not teach anymore let's just say i was welcomed with open arms and the tuition and patience that sensei steve has is second to none. as for my experiences since joining i have not only grown massively as a martial artist but also in confidence not only in what sensei steve has taught me but also in everyday life. Finally i would say that if you are reading this thinking hmm should i/ shouldnt i? take it from someone who started when he was a unfit late 40 year old that it will be the best decision you will ever make. Take the plunge and never look back :)
