The room was clean and had all the essentials. The restaurant food is very good but breakfast is bog standard. The whole place needs a good refurbishment- tacky tape joining carpet edges, filthy stair carpet, wallpaper ripped off walls in toilets. A shame as it has huge potential in a fabulous building.

Think this hotel is in process of renovation.Has a lovely staircase and entrance .Good sized roomy bedrooms and bathrooms. Brewing up facilities in room. The only downside was the small portionsfor the evening meal. Plus the bar shut very early. Breakfast was generous portion wise and very tasty. Staff were lovely and helpful so no problems there. A great hotel to stay in if you want to explore the area.

Firstly let me say I did not stay overnight but this place appears to have been taken over by new owners. Decor looks a lot better now than previously. I only visited for a drink whilst waiting on the train home as it is directly opposite the station.Comfy and pleasant enough staff.

After reading several reviews, I was really worried about this hotel. What i found was lovely. They accommodated a bus tour with 10 days notice when the original hotel was requisitioned by the government for Ukrainian refugees. The hotel is undertaking renovations and it was obvious they had hustled to prepare rooms for our whole group. Was the haste obvious? Yes. There were no bedside lamps, for instance, and the wash basin was not secured. However, the friendliness of the small staff and their willingness to do everything possible to make our stay comfortable earns an outstanding rating. Also, the room was clean. I probably would give it 3 stars under ordinary circonstances, but these were not ordinary circumstances. I would love to return in a year or so to see all the renovations completed.

Absolutely shocking service re private family reunion. Buffet which was expected and listed on email nothing like it. Burnt overcooked and bland . Not enough for 50 plus. So much some went to just eat as they had travelled all corners of uk for this.Staff did say the chef would add more. He did 8 bananas and doz apples. Breakfast no bread ran out the young waiter said. Rooms need repair. I know there in the middle of renovating but flooded bathrooms. Hotel did refund those who complained and after mgt inspection. Very disappointed in overall standard . WORD OF ADVICE DON'T ORGANISE A FUNCTION

A faultless one-night stay. Room spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff were all very helpful and enthusiastic in all respects. I have no reservations in recommending this hotel.

This hotel is not what it looks like on the website. Rooms are old, tired, dated and window furnishings are not clean. Some of which looked like they had tomato sauce on them...cracked plug sockets on the wall, bed missing a wheel, sunken sofa.

We went to a event there for the weekend and they served up uncooked chicken to kids .They have tried to revamp the rooms but the workers don't know what they are doing so the bathrooms have sharp edges with the walk in shower the water goes the wrong way and runs into the bedroom and the controls for the toilet are hanging off the wall.In the main toilets by the ball room the taps are hanging off the wall with the automatic lights only stay on for a few seconds and did not seemed to be cleaned while we were there this room was supposed to have been revamped. Some of the staff were not very friendly with one girl giving out food with a very baggy blouse which could go into the food.

Was worried after reading reviews.Right next door to the train station. Pay and display carpark that is free to hotel residents.Beautiful old building with a large garden with a gazebo and several tables at the back. Our room was one of the renovated ones. Both bedroom and en suite bathroom were clean with very comfortable beds. Big TV, hair dryer, hospitality tray. Nice little touches like chocolates on your bed. Staff friendly and helpful. We didn't eat here but saw desserts being taken to a table and they looked very nice.Downside, - This once gorgeous hotel (massive Central staircase, chandeliers, high ceilings etc) is in the process of being renovated, which means the public areas are awful. It nearly put me off even going in to see our room.Im glad I came it's a glorious building and I'd love to come back to see it fully restored to its former glory.
