Been here a few times and always had a good experience. The servers, though young, are fantastic well-presented, and professional. The manageress was clearly running an efficient and tight ship, and all very friendly and polite. The food is very high quality: our family have exceptionally high standards and have eaten in some of the best places in the country and continent, so we know our food and to impress my parents is an achievement. Maybe those saying it is bland should look at their diets - too much over processed food and sugar dulls your taste buds. And anyone complaining about portion/price on here doesn't understand portion sizes, or the costs involved in making and serving quality food, which is probably why The Clarence has sadly closed. If Bury wants nice things, you have to raise your standards and support the people providing those nice things! Will inevitably return as it's the best place for eating out in the area.

Fantastic place, excellent food and brilliant staff. Good portion size and spectacular flavours. Went out for a birthday dinner with friends and family. We had a 3 course dinner with a bottle of wine and coffee with dessert. Highly recommended

Food here is really lovely. It is pub food, but more of a fancy style. The place is owned by Andrew nutter who is a well known chef in the area, so you know the quality of the place.Family loves to go here for special meals out as a treat. Can set you back a few Bob, but it's worth a visit. You can go for just drinks downstairs and it's open late then (don't go off the open hours on the Google listing)

Poor options for vegetarians , only offer Xmas menu in December but no indication on booking. Staff all talking and throwing snowballs outside. Slow for plates to be cleared away.

We were never offered water for the table. We were asked what we wanted to drink after only just sitting down and not having time to look at the wine menu. The starters were good but the mains were very poor. The cod casserole was not wholesome but very wishy-washy. As for the cheese and onion pie? Over baked so the pastry was very dry and the filling was virtually non existent. I had a pint of beer and when the waitress took the empty glass away I wasn't asked if I'd like another one !! Too top it the bill includes a 10% service charge which you're obliged to pay regardless of whether or not you're happy with the service . It should be upto customer discretion whether they pay a tip or service charge. Not an obligation.I've been coming here for a good few years having previously going to Nutters in Norden. The food and service standards there were far superior there and a couple of years ago were very good at the Bird at Birtle. However, we've visited 3 times this year and each time has got increasingly disappointing. I'm afraid we won't be returning again which is a real shame cos the place itself is really pleasant. The food and service? No

The food was really nice but there were a some issues:We asked for no ice in some of our drinks, they turned up with iceWe asked for a latte that never cameIt's over-priced for what you get (but again, it is nice food)The music is both awful and too loud. It doesn't set a good atmosphere for a family sunday lunchProbably wouldn't go back for Sunday lunch as there are other pubs that has food that's just as good and is a bit more reasonable.

The food was very nice, although also overpriced for what you get. Bar staff didn't seem to grasp being asked not to put ice in drinks, when mentioned to them every time the drinks were brought over, the look, along with the way the drinks were snatched off the table weren't expected. Any service charge on any bill is optional,so certainly tips should be your own preference, and not added to the total. Just for the cost of the food, plus the service charge we won't be in a hurry to go back.
