Went to a birthday party in River room on Saturday (11/11/23) The meal was first class with excellent service, but it was the coldest venue I was ever in. The air conditioning was on, switched off after requesting ,the remainder of the hotel was so cold, I couldn’t feel a warm radiator in the building.

Had the Sunday carvery, good selection of starters, poor selection of mains. Meat choice good but sides very poor selection and not enough served by staff. Taste was good though. Older staff very good, younger staff were careless and distracted.

Lovely staff.Very attentive and friendly.Came as part of tour group, and were treated with upmost courtesy and consideration from the complementary tea and biscuits on arrival, the speedy check in,the transfer of luggage to allocated rooms. The food was delicious, plentiful and varied. The rooms were clean and comfortable. However, what made the stay as pleasant as it was the staff.Always helpful and smiling.A great experience.

The room was excellent - spacious and very well appointed. Sadly dinner was disappointing- the Beef Stroganoff needed a few more hours in a slow cooker to de- toughen the beef. Drink prices were expensive. Breakfast was adequate - cooked items lying on hotplate looking tired and stale.

Honestly so disappointed with the overall experience from this establishment. Not quite sure where to start. We had booked their advertised Halloween holiday staycation as advertised by them for myself partner and two young children. This is something we do every year with them and have being going to the same place for a few years and thought give this a go given the 4.5 star reviews on this site and also the advertisement sounded delightfully roaming the spooky grounds etcTo say this was inaccurate was an understatement. There were a few pound shop ghosts hanging off trees empty beer bottles ashtrays sitting on window cills and a broken light with shattered glass on the walkway. (Surely a health and safety risk). On the advertisement it was stated that their were two characters that needed help to find their friends but we weren’t advertised about who these characters even where and we didn’t seem to find their friends. Also advertised was hot chocolate on arrival however there wasn’t any to be found.False advertising. In bedroom the pull out bed for the kids was delapidated and the mattress not even half an inch thick we had to swap with them as they said they could feel the bars, (they were right)Our youngest was sick and managed to get some on the duvet so we had rang reception to get assistance we were provided sheets which my partner had to put on the bed and also had to leave the sick stained sheet outside of the room as they didn’t even offer to take them away.We didn’t sleep last night due to the heat in the room, we keep turning the thermostat down and window open but the thermostat kept going back up. With having two small children and being away we wanted to relax and couldn’t keep going to reception to raise issues. We have spoken with the hotel manager about the issues that we raised and he said the halloween trail was just something one of the staff members threw up (should not advertise it then as something fun for the kids as it was not and the kids were disappointed)He also said that the hot chocolate was available at the bar for us to get but without being told this how could we have knownAlso he mentioned that they have had technical issues with the thermostatsNext year we will be returning to our old haunting ground pardon the punSteer clear folksWould not return

Went for Sunday lunch as my son is getting married here next year and I wanted to see around the place. The food was great. Plenty of car parking spaces. The hotel is lovely inside. Outside parts the grounds need a tidy up and paint touched up especially for an outside wedding.

Poor service with restaurant. Hallways very cold. No signage to restaurant for dinner or breakfast. Room lovely and warm. Spa very poor, old building, small pool, no towel hooks for sauna/steam room and changing rooms dire. Definitely wouldn't go back

Attended a wedding recently, and stayed over. Rooms were not what I expected for the price! Old decor, dirty windows that didnt open. Staff were either amazing or terrible. One left half way through getting only 4 drinks, and just disappeared for 15 mins. When he came back he didn't remember he was serving us. Yet others were very attentive. Dirty cups at breakfast, but the food was great. A real mix of emotions as our friends had a great wedding but had we not been distracted by that, I think I'd really have found the hotel lacking. Have given 4 stars cos the wedding service was good. And the grounds beautiful.

Came with my Mum and Aunt. We sat in the sun room with views to the garden (and peacocks). Had a lovely coffee and scone. It cost a little more than in a coffee shop, but it is much more comfortable and the staff provide a great service. I thoroughly recommend.
