Barchester - Cumberland Grange Care Home

Really impressed with Cumberland Grange Care Home, it is absolutely beautiful and well equipped. Looking on behalf of a loved one and having to make such a big decision is quite daunting but Mica and the team were so helpful and friendly. What a wonderful place to live.

Amazing building and grounds, fantastic staff and person centred.I worked in the care industry for over 15 years and I've never been more impressed with a home before. Residents are treated as individuals and supported to live their lives to the maximum, weather that being activity based or spending time with families, these important things Cumberland Grange manage so well.The home is extremely clean and well maintained and staff are also very welcoming and professional. I really couldn't be any more impressed with the home. Care staff and management are very easy to communicate with, which is often a struggle in some homes.From what can be a very difficult time for many elderly people, leaving their family home into a residential setting, Cumberland grange is able to ease that difficult time by providing a home from home environment and further developing individuals to their needs.There really isn't anything better around and I cant recommend this wonderful home enough. I look very much forward to visiting again soon.

We visited Cumberland Grange recently after being invited to attend a local community event held there. Wow, what a gorgeous Residential Care Home. It was like walking into a 5* star hotel. The residents were all chatting, smiling and spending lots of time together. We were even lucky enough to have a good chat with them too. All the staff said hello and welcomed us as we took a look around. Just wonderful.

I have recently visited Cumberland Grange on a couple of occasions when running some community sewing sessions. I found the whole experience wonderful: a beautiful airy, light place, comfortable place where everyone is friendly and happy. :)

My aunt had a wonderful respite stay at Cumberland Grange after needing some rest and recovery. We visited regularly and it was comforting to see how happy she was there. She still talks about her stay now. The staff were extremely kind and caring too which of course is the most important thing. Thank you Cumberland Grange.

We are so grateful to the team at Cumberland Grange for all their kindness, care and hard work. Our Mum and Dad have been at Cumberland for nearly a year now and it has been a very positive experience. It is a happy, caring and well run home with many excellent activities and events. We always enjoy our visits to Cumberland Grange are so pleased that Mum and Dad are in such good hands.

Having worked in the care industry for over 25 years, I found myself in a position of looking for a home for a close friend. I was made to feel very welcome right away. All my questions were fully answered. Not only does the Cumberland Grange have a warm homely feel, it is beautifully decorated and furnished throughout.The main thing that I was looking at was the interactions of the staff, with both clients and visitors. They were amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home.

My mother had respite care at the Barchester Cumberland Grange. I would not recommend respite care there. Despite creating a care plan they initially failed to follow it. One day she was not washed or given breakfast until afternoon. I complained and was told she did not have a ‘chart’, we asked for her care to be charted and things improved somewhat - but latterly they stopped bothering tracking key things like fluid intake. Housekeeping was poor. Her bedlinen was washed once in a month and her room cleaned rarely. And worst of all they offered to add her to the rota of the GP who refused to take her on.The home moved my mother upstairs during her stay, which we agreed - but once moved they failed to tell her the code for using the lift. They promised to move her on the Tuesday then did nothing til the Thursday leaving her bewildered about what was going on - the manager did not communicate well throughout.I raised my concerns twice - during mum’s stay and at the end - the clinical lead’s response was ‘there’s a limit to what we can do’.I am giving two stars because the home was very good at activities and several carers really good and kind. However nice cupcakes and activities is no substitute for good care, housekeeping and following processes.

Hello! Cumberland Grange is a most wonderful place to live in and to visit. My role as Community Champion of the nearby Tesco Extra store in Exeter has given me the opportunity to visit Cumberland Grange to work with the residents, looking at the Cultures, Foods and Cookery from around the world.We have now involved some of the residents with attending cookery classes with a local group of young mothers and children who are looking to find ways of eating well on a very tight budget and reducing food waste. The Cumberland Grange Residents and Staff have taken this on with gusto, enthusiasm and have used their vast experience to bring something extra to the project. Fantastic! Thank You! Perhaps a different type of review but wanted to share my Cumberland Grange experience with you. I was looking for a care home for my father but was not sure if I needed a residential or a nursing home. Although it was quickly established that Cumberland Grange was not suitable for my father; I had an enlightening call with their manager Michele. Not only did Michele explain why, she competently gave me direction to approach more suitable care homes, which included various websites. So a big thank you to Michele and Mica for all you understanding, helpfulness and guidance.
