The Albannach
Everything about The Albannach was perfect and completely surpassed expectations. The room we had, the penthouse, was beautifully decorated with a perfect balance of luxury and cozy, not to mention the most beautiful view of Suilven. It was spotlessly clean and had amazing touches that we really appreciated like the linen sheets, arran toiletries, smart tv, good sized mini fridge and coffee machine. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge bathtub and separate equally huge rain shower! If our room was not enough, the breakfast was served in the stunning conservatory which was a great sun trap and enough for any plant-lover to envy! The breakfast itself was delicious, homemade and with so many yummy options (also perfect for vegetarians). Overall the hosts have done a wonderful job, getting every small detail right to give you a slice of relaxing luxury in the highlands! Not usually one to leave reviews but this place was truly impressive!

Our stay at The Albannach for our elopement was nothing short of exceptional, thanks to the incredible hospitality of Ballal and Robin. From the moment we arrived, their warmth and genuine friendliness made us feel incredibly welcome. The attention to detail and the effort they've put into creating a wonderful place truly shines through. The accommodations are not just comfortable but beautifully designed, offering a cozy and serene atmosphere that perfectly complemented our elopement experience.Breakfast at The Albannach is an absolute delight! Every morning, we were treated to a superb spread, and the pancakes, in particular, were a favourite—they were simply divine. Moreover, Ballal and Robin's willingness to accommodate our requests, such as inviting our photographer to capture the getting-ready moments in our suite, meant the world to us. Their flexibility and understanding made our special day even more memorable. The Albannach is an exquisite place, and the dedication of its hosts, Ballal and Robin, is evident in every aspect of the experience. We were so enchanted by our stay that we're already planning our return. Without a doubt, The Albannach has earned a permanent place in our hearts.Thank you, Ballal and Robin, for creating such a stunning retreat and for your unparalleled hospitality. We can't wait to visit again!

What a wonderfully relaxing experience at The Albannach! The suite was large, there was a desk for my laptop to download the day's photos of this amazing landscape and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Fabulous breakfast and exceptional hosts.

The Albannach
Having read many fantastic reviews, my partner and I were very much looking forward to our stay at The Albannach and, unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. We stayed in the Loft Suite – a nice room but with some mould in the shower, caps falling off in the bathtub and a used tissue down the side of the bed. The heating didn’t seem to be controllable in the room and it was therefore far too hot and stuffy. Nothing too serious but not what you expect from a room that goes for around £200 a night. The conservatory was a bit tired looking and the dining room was very dark and dingy. On arrival we were expecting an afternoon tea, which turned out to be a mere cup of tea and slice of cake. Shortly after we ordered a glass of wine and a bottle of beer which took 40 minutes to arrive (we were the only guests there yet) and the drinks were then spilled on us.As for the meal - the canapés were lovely, as was our first course and dessert, however the four dishes in between were a little lack lustre in comparison to other Michelin starred meals we’ve had. The fish cake was under seasoned as was the accompanying cucumber dressing; the veg accompanying the venison was a strange mixture of underdone and complete mush; and the mushroom and red wine risotto was practically tasteless. The wine list was extensive but mostly redundant as the majority were marked ‘N/A’. The dining room was small and intimate with only 10 diners and, since there was no music playing, severely lacked atmosphere. The waiters really only brought and cleared plates as we poured our own wine and water all night. The meal took around 3 hours, which we didn’t mind, but since there was no option to eat before 8pm (and service was late) we missed out on coffees.Despite these issues, we were most disappointed in the customer service. We had heard rave reviews about Lesley and Colin’s 'first class' hospitality, however Colin didn’t make an appearance at all and Lesley only appeared once we had paid the bill and were walking out the door. When Lesley asked how we enjoyed our stay we answered honestly and said that it had been nice but we had been a little disappointed considering how expensive it was – just over £400 for one night. ‘A little disappointed’ was a polite understatement. Lesley then blamed our taste on not enjoying the meal claiming that we “were in a room full of people who absolutely loved it”. She offered nothing in the way of an apology apart from an insincere “sorry about that” as she turned her back and walked away.Had Lesley been a little more gracious we would have left feeling that the evening had been nice but not worth the money spent. Instead we left feeling patronised and ripped off. We are great lovers of good food of all types and know what to expect from a Michelin starred restaurant but we were treated like children who wouldn’t know any better (we’re both in our late twenties). Our experience may have been an unfortunate one off and our feedback might have been treated with more respect had we been 20 years older. Needless to say we won’t be back.

Visited here as part of the NC500, stayed in the annex building. The room was very well designed with a tasteful decor and well equipped. The building had a small conservatory which led to an outdoor patio (including a hot tub) with a well appointed private garden area with beautiful views. A very well put together set of rooms with a very comfortable bed and peaceful surroundings. Breakfast was sublime, 2 course options, homemade sourdough bread and a mouthwatering selection of options. Definitely stay here if you're looking for somewhere in or near Lochinver.

Well what can we say. We had the most wonderful time staying in The Byre which is gorgeous. Ballal and Robin are brilliant hosts. They made our elopement so special. The breakfast every morning was delicious and love that so much is home grown. The space is beautiful and the surrounding areas are stunning. Would 100% recommend staying here, favourite stop on the 500.
