Castle Builders (St Albans) were our builders for a wrap-around single-story extension with some significant internal remodelling thrown in. That work is all completed now and our home is everything that we hoped it would be.The work covered an extended kitchen and dining room with apex roof to the rear and a new downstairs cloakroom, utility room and office to the side, with underfloor heating to most of the downstairs area. On top of this we created an enlarged upstairs bedroom with en-suite and a new family bathroom. Finally, we wanted to future proof the house so the design included space and construction needed for us to install an internal lift between hall and landing - and though we have not had the lift fitted it can be done easily and with a minimum of work should we ever need it.We had a previous house extended over 25 years ago, so while not first-timers we didn't have any detailed knowledge of the build process. We could not have chosen a better builder or been in safer hands! All of the planned work, and some additional work we asked for during the build process itself, was carried out in a friendly and professional manner and to a high quality. What I have learned is that a build is as good as the people doing the building - and from the groundworks guys and bricklayers, through the carpentry and kitchen installation, to the plumbing, electrical works and decoration, each of the specialists was excellent. Ray and Luke, owners of Castle Builders, were easy to deal with and let us know quickly about any small issues that arose and helped us solve them efficiently. They have great attention to the details, even running around during peak Covid materials shortages to find us the most suitable bricks and to source alternative roof tiles when supplies ran completely dry. Ray handled the various building inspections, which were all passed with no issues.We're six months on from the end of the build and there were very few snaggings all were quickly remedied and they even did a couple of small extra tasks for us that they didn't charge for.We're thrilled with the result of our extension and remodelling and have no hesitation in recommending Castle Builders.
