Good spoons, sadly a table of loud and rude students ruined experience. Too loud for 9.30 with kids around. Staff knew them, let them continue. Given it's a hotel and needs tourists was not a good lookFood Luke warm, service ok.

Wetherspoons as to be expected. First time staying In a spoons hotel, and did the job for a night!Free parking 6pm-8am in the market right outside.Clearly an old building, not a single one of the floors to the upstairs rooms are level - you'd think you were drunk before you went for a pint.Old school hotel really. Lots of facilities in the room - widest tea/cofee/hotchoc/biscuit spread I've had in a hotel. Not sure if all the rooms are the same, but ours had a security light with a green LED in it, which lit the entire room up - not great for sleeping in a dark room"Otherwise can't really fault it for the price and city centre location."

While in Ripon had a glass of wine and a beer in the Unicorn. As ever price's very good for a quality NZ sauvignon blanc. There are rooms to stay at this wetherspoons. Felt like the bar was smallish compared to many of the wetherspoons I've visited, but still nice. Didn't try any food but the meals were flying out the kitchen. Ripon not bad as well although there is loads of traffic which is a pity.

I very rarely feel it necessary but I have to say so very disappointing to the point of upsetting based on previous experience and having had supported from the offset when finding a Wetherspoons would open in the historic Ripon City.I’ve always supported a Wetherspoon’s and have frequented and sought them out wherever I’ve visited whilst appreciating they are affordable and keep historic buildings which may otherwise have become disused.Particularly upsetting visiting The Unicorn however in Ripon this evening as I’ve visited many a time and stayed in the hotel when visiting in laws who retired to Ripon for personal reasons not least for its history, beauty and peace.Tonight’s visit was especially sour from the offset and not for the patrons but staff. Ordering just 2 drinks, it took 3 times questioning from the bartender whilst seemingly trying to multitask to grasp what the order was, the second time trying to order, it was a similar experience and the order was wrong. When seated by the kitchen area we were sat listening to the bar staff using obscene and unnecessary language whilst complaining about the heat from the kitchen , football and more concerning the patrons themselves.Neither the Carling or Guinness was poured or tasted to the standard we are accustomed to at the Avion in Aldridge. As an experienced publican this would suggest that perhaps the beer lines had not been cleaned? We had visited with the intention to eat but on hearing and witnessing how the bar staff behaved and spoke in front of house, it put me off wanting to dine for food as I became concerned at what must go on behind closed doors. There appeared to be absolute zero consideration given to the establishment, Ripon itself or its patrons.

Called in for tea Wednesday night and only a very few meals, apparently the waiter said nothing had been prepared so left and went to an excellent Italian round the corner. Surprised as usually when in ripon I call here and have a good feed.

The pub is going downhill rapidly..... I need of a good clean, as you stick to everything you touch. Standards are slipping Mr Witherspoon, your flagship hotel is on a par with a city centre all day anorak spoons these days
