Good menu, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. There's parking available both at the front and back - spacious inside and can hold a fair amount of people. The food was enjoyable , lovely fries and great curry . I liked the vegetable cutlet along. Thai curry doesn't come with rice and also I'd not agree that it is as a Thai curry but it was well cooked. All of us enjoyed our food. Very friendly staff. There's some outdoor seating and well which will be great during the summers

OK.....I'm going to start this review with the intention that the criticism is constructive..The building itself is fantastic, with the old oak beams (one of my favourite features) sash windows and a big fireplace, all of this in the original part of the building of course...The room (room 1) on the face of it was romantic in decor, spacious, on suit bathroom which was situated off a longish corridor that is part of the room itself and wardrobe, dressing table, TV etc..First criticism comes when you start to look closer, E.g the shower screen didn't quite reach the top of the bath, the window fittings were ill filled with some being broken, there was a hole in the wall on entrance to the room and no handles on the build in wardrobe..All of this I feel was an easy fix but was just being neglected..Evening meal was severed by a lovely group of staff, however although the prices were not over the top the meal itself was no better than a wetherspoon or running horse..The fourposter bed was clean and comfortable but again could do with a little TLC on the paint work and unfortunately the ventilation for the kitchen exited next to the window of room 1 which resulted in a medium rumbling sound while the kitchen was open..In the morning breakfast (non inclusive) at £12.95 was served, we both opted for the full English over the continental, and to be honest it was alittle disappointing with 1egg 1bacon 1 hash brown and a small scoup of mushrooms and beans, the jam and butter arrived before the breakfast but the toast didn't make an appearance unit we were halfway through, even then it was no more than warm bread..My wife asked for another tea which never came so we decided to leave to explore the surrounding village..The summary of our stay in this..The evening staff are amazing (especially the girl lady with the amazing eyeliner), the building has a real historic feeling too it but could use some attention ( I'd paint the outside and freshen it up abit) the food on the evening was OK but the morning staff, who I have a feeling are the owners seem to have lost motivation with it as a business, which I find alittle sad as the were very sweet..

Today we had the miss pleasure of having Sunday lunch at the lion hotel Buckden the meals came out cold although the servers wore heat proof gloves as the plates were hot the meals were not my daughters meal was raw it was the burger under cooked chips and to top it off the server spilt a whole gravy boat over my coat which is dry clean only I know these things happen but the whole experience was very disappointing how these places stay open I was told I was aggressive about my coat I was not all I said after an under par meal and a ruined coat which I now have to get dry cleaned at my own cost too all that read my review please don’t go I’m not one for a review but felt I had to wright customer service 0 food quality 0

We stayed with our friends on the Sunday the 9th of July as a stop on our way to Yorkshire. We are polite inclusive people who do not tell lies. The welcome was non existent the bar staff gave us drinks in an unopened can with no glasses, and closed at 8pm? The whole place was filthy, dated and not as shown in the photographs advertising online. Our room had old style 3 pin plugs ( probably not of todays standards, electrical inspection needed) breakfast was booked for8.30 but no one was in to serve this, then the owners arrived saying they were not told we had breakfast, when it was served, no choice was given or allergies asked about and just served. The next day 2 of our party of 4 were stricken down with diarrhoea and sickness. We were not asked on leaving if we would stay again as stated in my friends review reply, it therefore appears we are being accused of doing what the owners do I.E lie. We support small businesses but have to be honest in reviews as hopefully, people learn from honesty. No we would stop again. However the area is very pretty.

It was like a episode of Gordon Ramsey kitch nightmares!Burger was nasty, I really can't remember another time I did not actually finish a burger and I did have an appetite. The wings came with a weird thick batter that warm on the outside and refrigerator cold in the middle. The chef obviouly does not care about standreds and more importantly the basics of food safety don't eat here!!!

I booked this hotel for a two night stay on business, only to find that on a Monday and Tuesday they close the bar and restaurant areas at 09:00. On the first night I had my meal and purchased a drink at the bar, I then went to sit down the bar area only to be advised that I and the other guests would have to go to our rooms to finish our drinks this was at 09:00. Also in the morning my breakfast was cooked by the waitress and not a qualified chief. The food was bland both in the evening and at breakfast.... I cancelled my second night and all my future bookings x 5. There loss and my gain. This is no way to treat paying guests.

They advertised two vegetarian meals but had none. My wife then asked for Sunday lunch without the meat. When it arrived the had 2 slices of carrot, 4 old looking soft roast potatoes, one very small broccoli, a burnt Yorkshire pudding and gravy that smelt of old musty socks. My friend and I had fish and chips which was not great as the fish was soggy. His wife had a chicken roast which was similar quality as my wife’s meal. The waitress was great a it’s not her fault but the manger, which was no place to be seen should get a new chef, perhaps a new manager is needed. Now we know why we were the only ones in that restaurant on a Sunday.

We were greeted on our arrival by friendly and welcoming staff. Our room , room 6, was elegantly decorated and in keeping with the age of the 15th Century building. The food was superb with plenty of choice from the menu and our food of choice always arrived piping hot. Many thanks for a lovely experience.

The hotel is of an older style and is a little jaded in parts. The breakfast is very good and the staff very helpful and accommodating.
