i wasn’t a patient- i was a coin in his pocket. if you have any say in your child’s care please do them a favour and spare them the trauma of this place. they will likely come out in a worse, more unwell state than before.

My daughter was in the Rochford adolescent unit for 3 weeks, we put in for transfer to another unit within 2 weeks of her being there. Some staff were bullying and when confronted, the usual denials. I would not send her here ever again . It's a disgraceful place.

I was a patient a few years ago. Was a terrible place. No stimulation at all. Staff were clueless and had no clue what they were doing. Other patients managed to sneak in contraband that could’ve been fatal and I bought this up but nothing was done. Despite this there were very few good staff that did help me.

4/10 would not recommend. Had been waiting for a reservation at this place for months honestly, and it did not live up to my expectations. Love the mac n cheese though.

Every staff we met - the nurses, support workers, carers, doctors and therapist were professional, empathetic and knowledgeable. We are really grateful for the support at Poplar, and our son will also remember it as a safe and helpful place.

Please do yourself a favour and steer clear of this hospital if you want any help as your mental health will deteriorate. Some of the staff have appalling attitudes and clearly shouldn’t be in that kind of job. The communication skills are non existent. The staff are.l wee not even following their own procedures of monitoring patients.Additionally, be careful of your belongings as my child’s belongings have apparently gone missing.During covid, the cleaners were not even follow there own advice. And of course, my child caught covid in there.

I spent a couple weeks within this unit & throughout my admission before transfer I raised so many concerns, lists and lists. There is not enough stimulation for patients throughout the day & the ward usually dirty. There is high bank/agency staff usage whom do not always speak the best English; not only this, but do to a check being missed myself and my peers will be spending tomorrow heart broken as we mourn. Tomorrow (12/02) marks the second year since our dear friend (initials KC for privacy) was able to take her own life due to a staff failing. The soul purpose of a place like this is to not allow such a tragedy to happen. Please, for the safety of yourself or your children do not allow an admission to this ward. I am not bitter because it’s a hospital, the other 2 admissions I had proved incredibly helpful and I have nothing but good things to say about this, but the PAU truly was no place for recovery or stabilisation.

Was a patient here recently. Just got discharged with no treatment or care plans in place. While being in the ward my community therapist was allowed to visit but not have any sessions with me. The ward stopped all forms of treatment i had or was about to start and didnt replace them. I spent 28 days with no support. Many of the nurses invalidated my feelings and called me “irrational” as i was speaking about how i felt. When i asked for time alone and spoke about why i needed it i was told that i was emotionally blackmailing one of the staff members.Im now out of the ward and suffering with flashbacks from being in there and seeing traumatic events. They left we feeling more alone than ever and made me lose trust in the mental health system as a whole. No child should ever have to feel invalidated and ashamed and especially not when youre in a mental health establishment. It is not good enough and nothing was done to help. The system needs to change.

Food was good. Nice portions, definitely worth what you're paying (as in, your freedom). Can't really compliment the service tho
