Sewcialising

I went to the one day beginner sewing class on Saturday 28th January 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed my day! Gill is a wonderful tutor. We learned the basics about how to use a sewing machine, read and cut a pattern, use basic stitches, how to press hems - and we all made a beautiful pair of pyjama bottoms! A really fun day. I feel confident now to use my machine, do the alterations I wanted to do and even to make some basic items. I'm looking forward to booking another session so I'll know how to work with a stretchy fabric. I would highly recommend this to anyone just starting out or who maybe needs a refresher and/or a bit of confidence. The shop also has a lovely supply of fabrics and wool - everything you need to get cracking.

Wonderful beginners' sewing workshop.Very good teaching, so patient. Started as a true beginner and in just three lessons have acquired enough skills to work independently. Highly recommend it.

I booked a private sewing lesson and loved it! As a complete beginner, I wasn’t sure what to expect but Kathy was lovely and very patient. She showed me how to use a sewing machine and how to create a pattern for a cushion cover. You can see the end result in the photo!I had a mooch around the shop too and as a knitter I’d already eyed up at least 10 things to add to my collection!Thank you so much Kathy, I will definitely be back for the quilting workshop.

I had a private sewing lesson with Kathy and it was just great. Kathy taught me how to read a pattern and kindly and patiently went through this with me, teaching me how to understand the pattern, choose materials, use interfacing etc.. I really enjoyed the lesson as Kathy was really welcoming and the shop/workshop is lovely to spend time in. Will go back for more!

As a novice sewer I took the beginners class. Kathy is a knowledgable, patient and hospitable tutor showing me everything I need to know to get started on making garments all from her beautiful studio in the centre of York. I thoroughly enjoyed the classes and will definitely be back for more. If you’ve never sewn before then this is the perfect place to get started!

Kathy is such a lovely helpful person and patient teacher for the class I attended. I wasn't very confident in sewing something to wear but patience and good coaching I managed to make a cushion cover and a pair of pajama shorts! Thank you for your help!

Took the intro sewing class and loved it! The classes are small so there's lots of help. I'm so happy with both things I made (pillowcase and pj bottoms). Definitely want to take more classes here!

I am visiting York from Scotland and found this absolute gem of a shop today. Such a stunning selection of fabrics (it was all about the dressmaking fabrics for me) but also a lovely range of indy patterns and the haberdashery and gifts were just lovely. If you are near York or are visiting you must pay a visit.

Had a one-on-one sewing lesson at the Coffee Yard. Kathy was absolutely lovely and I learnt so much. The machine was a dream to use, the lesson was everything you need to start sewing (and a little more!), and the cushion cover I made is now in my living room for all to see! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get into sewing or wanting a refresher. Will be back again for fabric for my next project!
