Don’t think iv seen a worst place for mental health in my life. This is place is shocking. If I could give it less then one star I would. You get a care plan offering you support. I have been here 6 days not one person has been up to me to offer anything offered in my care plan.I was eating breakfast in the breakfast room males and females are allowed in the same room with no staff. A man was telling me about his sexual preferences and it’s cleaners with dusters on his private parts. Not something you want to hear with your morning cup of tea. I did report this nothing was done. I have always heard off other lady’s that this has happened before.Don’t bother complaining it gets you on a 72 watch just for asking to sleep. Because they can’t stop the music from upstairs above your room. I was then put for a review to go on a section 2. The amp (socail worker) came she said your denying her of basic human rights of sleeping. She also said I have only been here half a hour and she had a headache. I was not put on a section as I was only put on the 72 hours watch because I ask to sleep after days of booming music coming in my room luckily the amp was there when this was happening.Within 6 days iv been from informal to a 72 watch to a section 2 recommendation to leaving hospital with no medication all for wanting to sleep. Please read other reviews before sending love ones here.

I was on the Sanctuary ward a couple of years ago and recently found out that not only was the ward bordering on abusive,I misdiagnosed. I believe the psychiatrist at the time has left but she was rude and arrogant even barging into the room without knocking while I was asleep. Avoid it at all costs as I am still traumatised two years later.

Worst experience of my life. Most the staff are brilliant but the Ward manager Ian on the female ward sanctuary is awful. Speaks to patients like rubbish. Has no desire to help patients recover. Never engages with his patients nor wants to help. Men are allowed TVs and consoles in their room and women are not allowed. Discrimination and sexism at its best. Apparently he likes all the mental health patients to interact and he wonders why there are so many kick offs. If you have bad anxiety don’t worry the ward manager doesn’t care if you have a panic attack as long as you do what he says. This is a mental health hospital and he hasn’t got the heart to be working in such a place. I’ve came out that place worse than I went in. I would rather die than go back to that place.

This was my first experience of inpatient mental health services and to summarise I did not find it helpful to my recovery. There is a serious lack of inpatient psychological interventions available which in my opinion is imperative to recovery, it felt more like a prison than a hospital for people who are experiencing one of the worst times of their lives. The staff did not communicate effectively with patients leaving me feeling frustrated and invalidated. There seemed to be serious issues with staffing and resources from patient care delivery to basic entitlement such as food.I felt at times I was over medicated to be silenced and felt this was inhumane .The general consensus from other peers on the ward was that our care was poorly managed and if we had of been in an nhs setting our quality of care would of been more sufficient and beneficial to our recovery

So, my family paid for me to go,after attempting suicide and ending up in a coma for 5 days. The care was impeccable. Great day time care staff who didn't make it seem odd you were in a treatment centre, it just seemed a safe space. The psychiatrist,Dr Beanie, was the best person to help me. Despite his private psychiatrist status, he helps those who need it, and his explanation of my mind and where it was going wrong has stayed with me to this day.6 years later I stick to his advice and have a totally different life to what I had when I went in.

I can not thank the staff at Cygnett Hospital enough for the excellent care and support they have given to someone who is very close to me. The transformation over time has been amazing. The support in hospital and transition to after care has been exceptional. Thank you for going above and beyond to help.

My mum was a patient on the female ward and the ward manager Ian has to be the most arrogant man he spoke to her like a child my mum is a professional singer he was injecting her for singing I thought with it being a private hospital it would be better I was wrong she came out worse than she went in she was suicidal after she was there she wasn’t before she went in there

Wouldn't even give it one star if I had the choice. Staff don't listen to a word you say. Lack of communication is actually amazing. One person tells you one thing and then someone tells you something completely different. The only way you actually get listened to is when a family member rings up on your behalf to complain so I feel sorry for the people who have no one to speak for them. I asked to speak to the advocate on my first day of being here and after two weeks in still haven't met her. They withheld prescription pain relief for hours and when I told the ward manager that I was in pain he just shrugged and turned around. Told I'm informal and can leave whenever I want and I can discharge myself whenever I want and that doesn't happened either. Spoken to like a child for slamming a door when everyone on the ward has done it before and just gets told not to do it again. Came here to get better and ended up so much worse. Its safe to say this place has taught me to never open up about my mental health to anyone ever again. Had to discharge myself to work on my recovery as this place made me worse. If your local hospital wants you to go to a psyche ward and tells you about a bed being available in this amazing private psyche hospital in the middle of Harrogate... dont do it!!
