Columba Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality

Loved the experience with this historic hotel. The service was superb at the front desk. We needed to change rooms to accommodate our parent who was traveling with us and the hotel was so incredibly gracious to move us to a different room with an additional bed, at no extra charge. They were lovely about our situation.

Would not recommend this hotel.Whilst the locaction may be good that's where it ends for me. I had the misfourtune to stay there as part of a tour group. To say my room was substandard is an understatement. The toilet did not flush properly I reported this to reception who said they would come and look on return from dinner I checked still not working properly spoke to reception again response was that you just needed to keep pushing the handle, as this is an old hotel and they were waiting replacement. Next tried to have a shower, there was no hot water, and the shower head delivered little more than a dribble of water. This time I notified my tour director, again the response from reception was that there was no other rooms, not even an apology for the inconvenience. Thankfully the tour leader swapped rooms with me. The room I was allocated should never have been let out.

Starting off with the good - the staff was kind and helpful. We came with a large tour group (44 people), and everything was ready and smooth for our check in process. The location was absolutely perfect. The river is beautiful, great restaurants and shopping are very close, and the area is gorgeous.Downside - the room was dirty: Stains on the pillows, dust was caked on to the fan, moldy shower curtain. All of that was inconsistent among the rooms on our tour, though. Some were fine. My biggest complaint was the temperature, though. It was beautiful out while we were there. High 50s at night, mid 60s during the day - the room was so hot it melted some of my makeup. The room had horrible airflow and just held on to all of the heat. I don’t think I slept more than 20-30 minutes at a time.Regarding the food, the quality was great; however the staff couldn’t keep up with the large group. (We trickled in maybe ten at a time?).The staff absolutely worked as hard as they could to keep up, and I do understand there is only so much you can do with a building this old, but if you’re sensitive to sleeping in heat, keep this in mind.

Brilliant location for exploring Inverness, serives was great, super helpful staff, allowed us to check out a little bit later due to flight times. Breakfast was nice, easy to navigate and plentyful. The room was massive with a large king size bed, brilliant view over the river and powerful shower. We stayed for 3 nights highly recommend, great hotel only surpassed by the service of the staff.

I stayed here on Monday and I was really happy with my stay. The check in was easy and greeted by a nice Scottish young lady.My room was clean albeit a bit small. The hotel restaurant was nice and the waiter was professional and friendly as well.The location is fantastic it's in the heart of Inverness five mins walk if that and your in the nightlife bars pubs etcI will stay again! Thank you :)

I give two stars because of the good location (in the middle of the city with lots of options around) and the friendly staff. Unfortunately, I cannot give any points for the quality of the rooms and the lack of daily room service. It was very cold one night and we had to turn on the electric heaters, which worked so far. To my astonishment, USB ports were installed in the sockets, which worked very well. Structurally, the building is end of life on the outside and inside and urgently needs to be renovated. Overall impression: something between Miss Marple and Murder by Death, but in the heart of Inverness.

Hotel is quaint, location is good. The reason I took away a star is, as a guest who paid top price of £180 per night, I expect to have full breakfast available. Greedy (cheap) bus tour guests had cleaned out the breakfast area of anything that would fit into their backpacks before we had arrived. We and other guests had to repeatedly urge the reluctant staff to restock the breakfast items, such as bread, croissants, yogurt, cheese, and fruit. Coffee was cold. It was as if these items were coming out of the personal pantries of the staff. Other guests were as vocal until we could enjoy the breakfast we had paid for, the same breakfast pillaged by the lower paying bus tour guests.

Was there about a week and a half ago. If I could give this hotel less than one star I would. The hotel smells the room smell and they're dirty. The food was awful! We didn't even finish our meal get up and went someplace else. I was supposed to get breakfast the next day with them but I wouldn't eat there again I went someplace else. I was at this hotel with c e i tours. It should not be on the list of hotels to stay at.

Built in 1881, full of fascinating history but it really needs a massive make over/renovation. Staff have been very good/helpful/responsive considering the condition of the place. Floor is uneven. Needs better ventilation throughout. Room #224 - no need to have a bath installed. Better to have a stand alone shower with door or fixed screen. Bathroom door needs to be replaced. Water pressure for the shower needs to be improved. Otherwise, best for a stay of no more than 3 nights.

Room was dark and dirty, bathroom shower curtain needs to be washed or replaced regularly. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The hotel location is ideal for walking. Advertised as a European 3-star…more like a EU1 star.
