Lovely pub, with great views out of port gaverne. We enjoyed the walk from port Isaac had a cheeky pint and then walked back which makes the steep road easier to manage… lovely local beers and ales on tap, highly recommend the harbour brewery artic sky ipa!

I have been coming to the Port Gaverne Hotel for 40 years, with three different owners, and have loved staying, dining and lunching there. Previously, it was very special the hub of this small charming community, with locals coming and going, meeting at the bar for drinks and meals, and there was always a truly delightful buzzing atmosphere. The pub tables outside were always full of holiday makers and locals enjoying their pub lunches in the sun. Upon moving to Devon we used to visit often, sitting outside in the sun overlooking the bay, enjoying a two or three course pub lunch– it was our idea of a slice of paradise on earth and we loved the hotel and Port Gaverne as did all the visitors and the locals we chatted to.Last year we noticed that the prices had rocketed, so we couldn’t visit so often. Due to ill health we couldn’t visit this year until recently, and what an unpleasant shock we received! The bar menu had been removed, and a 2 course lunch was now £38 or 3 courses was £45 from the hotel restaurant, or snacks at circa £13.00 each. How can families with children possibly afford this? The place was deserted – nobody drinking in the bar, (which wasn’t surprising as 2 medium glasses of wine is now £20), nobody in the restaurant, and apart from us, only one other occupied table outside with a family who I noticed only ordered olives, chips and a drink each.. It was a pleasant sunny day with lots of holidays makers as the children were on holiday. I ordered fish and chips and had a large battered haddock, plus two tiny dipping bowls of peas and tartare sauce, which wasn’t homemade, plus some chips. Enjoyable, but not Michelin star and not worth the £28.00 charge. For a jug of Pimms, a bowl of olives, plus a small pleasant starter and my fish I was charged a total of £74.00. Unbelievably expensive for what I had eaten, and unsurprising that the hotel was so deserted. I felt sorry for the staff who looked unhappy and underworked, and who hopefully pointed out the tip section on the card machine, to us when paying.I checked The Pilchards to see if they offered a cheaper lunch, but their sharing plates for two was £85 or a Surf and Turf for £130.Unless a more affordably priced pub lunch can be provided in future, we and many others will be unable to come to Port Gaverne Hotel any longer, which is heart breaking for us. All the pleasant happy charm of the hotel has vanished becoming instead this sad deserted hotel, which was once the proud and happy hub of this delightful village community, and which doesn’t need to punch above its weight.

This was such a wonderful place to stay! We were able to walk everywhere, even to the surrounding hills. Wonderful views and so peaceful. The restaurants near by were tasty and great to have happy hour and watch the sun go down. My favorite though was their included breakfast, high quality with such care. I didn't want to leave. Thank you for a sublime experience.

Had an incredible meal here this evening, very quaint seaside decor, friendly and welcoming staff, and one of the best meals I have had in years. I highly recommend both the Bass and the Haddock, as well as the Dessert Soufflée and Apple Pie(?). Every single component of every dish was cooked to perfection. A little on the pricey side but well worth every penny

Came here for a drink after our walk around Port Gaverne.A pint and gin and tonic was £16.40!Service was very pleasant and helpful.A warning. If you come in for just one meal you are charged the 2 course fixed price regardless at £38 each. Ouch!!

Outrageous prices for drinks, we were shocked at being ask £12.90 for a ginger beer and a pint of pale ale. We were sitting next to a family who were expressing the same views. So unnecessary to charge so much, it spoils the experience of a beautiful location. It's elitist, not everyone can afford these ridiculous prices and shouldn't be faced with them in the first place. Everyone should be able to enjoy a drink in the sunshine without the need to take out a second mortgage. Prices need adjusting seriously.

We stay in Port Issac every year for 2 weeks and love it, we found out this year that Port Gaverne Hotel was doing a Sunday Lunch which is quite rare down here in summer. We have just had the most amazing meal, service was outstanding and the scenery is epic. Tender pink roast beef, cabbage that was to die for, the finest Yorkshire Pudding I think I have ever eaten (and I live 10 miles south of Yorkshire!)I have eaten in Tom Kerridges Hand and Flowers for Sunday lunch (2 Michelin Star) and The Ritz in London, I can honestly say this was to the same standard, I dare say I enjoyed it more! MUST try it if you’re in the area, can’t recommend highly enough and huge thanks to all front and back of house staff who made it such an amazing experience! 5/5.EDIT - Noticed a few reviews moaning about the price. Cornwall is very seasonal, profit is made April - September and outside of those months no doubt they operate at a loss. For me, this was Michelin quality food at half the price. I’m not a rich man but I can appreciate quality over quantity. If you want a cheap Sunday Lunch of overcooked vegetables and meat that been sitting for ages then go to a Toby Carvery. If you want to appreciate an amazing dining experience at half the price of London then try this.
