Winnall Moors Nature Reserve

I love the peace and quiet when you walk into here. It’s very hidden away but it is great to walk through here either in a loop or as part of a larger walk around the city. I’ve seen lots of wildlife in here including deer so worth keeping an eye out.

Whenever I am back in Winchester I usually visit Winnall Moors nature reserve.It is lovely there. You would not know that it is so close to town.When I have been there before I had never seen any wildlife.Today I saw quite a few of the local inhabitants.I will definitely be going back again when I am back in Winchester.

My first visit, a very pleasant evening walk around the circuit, this is a wonderful place for wildlife, I only saw the more common birds, but chiffchaffs were singing, a true sign of spring. No dogs are allowed, which is a real bonus for those ground nesting birdsThe Itchen looked great in the evening sunshine, and the gnarled trees added to the beauty of the place

A peaceful and pleasant little walk . Nice relaxing place to calm away from the bustle of town .Do not bring the dog though they are not allowed.There is a lake in the centre and walks around the river backing on to North Walls recreation ground with a bridge giving access to the rec .

No dogs allowed, not even on leads. I understand not to have them off the lead, but surely responsible dog walkers should be able to enjoy this place too? It looks beautiful.

An oasis of nature and calm !Great for a wander or a serious Nature spotting session.Take a packed lunch (and take your litter home!) and sit and savoir the wildlife around you, don't forget to look to the skies too.

Really nice to walk around as no dogs allowed. There no facilities on site. Ideal for picnics and lots of wildlife to photograph

Well-reserved nature reserve hidden in the middle of the town. Lovely place to walk and relax anytime. Saw all sorts of wildlife and lovely wooden sculptures and benches. You can walk to the recreation ground from here.

Winchester is the most incredible city- a beautiful bustling High Street with quaint but imposing buildings that look as though they are straight from a film set... a Cathedral as fine as any in the World and best of all just a five minute walk away the peace and tranquility of Winnall Nature Reserve...I can think of no other city in the world where there is such a gem so close....leave the hustle behind and walk through unspoilt water meadows where woodpeckers, coots, moorhen and mallards are also out shopping for that day’s provisions.....where deer roam freely and voles scurry along river banks lit by wild flowers...see swans with their cygnets riding happily on their parents’ back just like the kids with their mums and dads as they wander through this great city of ours....Please visit throughout the seasons as there is always something new to see...to admire...and to marvel:)
