During the notification period of my ground floor extension, in the interest of both myself and my immediate neighbour a Party Wall Surveyor was sought to act as independent party to ensure there would be no adverse reaction to either parties with the start of my build.Several surveyors were contacted with mixed responses in terms of even responding to communication, professionalism, clarity on fee structure and generally whether they seemed even interested in helping the process along - some were big companies that did not necessarily specialise and were charging obscene amounts too. After being strung along by one party, we contacted Carl which turned an almost hopeless scenario that I would be able to meet the start commitment with my contractor into something that could be possible.The process, detail, options and fees were fully illustrated from the beginning. The communication was open and honest amongst all parties and I was also advised on reissuing build notices to the other neighbour which was duly carried out. I am pleased thanks to Carl's expertise, effort, guidance and completing all pw notices/condition report/award/access notice I was able to successfully start the build process process on time. All stages observed by Building Regs have been approved and things are going great. There have been no complaints from my neighbour either who was equally satisfied by Carl during the entire process.Would highly recommend his services, and will be sure to call for future projects.

We were having a fairly substantial extension with a complicated party wall issue. Carl worked tirelessly and addressed the issues with both parties to reach an amicable solution. His attention to detail and clear explanation of the complex issues facilitated an agreement which meant the extension could proceed. Carl kept us and the neighbours informed throughout the whole process. His fees were very fair considering the complexity of the case.We would recommend his services without hesitation and look forward to working with him in the future.

Very poor service provided - lost the number of the party wall contact while negotiations were happening and then proceeded to blame me for the delay of the response. And on the opposite side, proceed to explain to me in a very complicated way what options we had to go with and we ended up doing 4-5 different drawings (which made me incur additional costs due to him not being able to advise the correct and most appropriate process to follow) before he finally chose to submit a drawing, it turned out that he chose the wrong one so the neighbour dissented. And when I raised the complaint to him, was not willing to do anything about it. So please be aware before using.You're right Carl - you did go out at your expense to the property to get the number you should have taken a note of in the first place but the fact that this has caused a delay to the proceedings, you have not mentioned that you have not provided any compensation for that.And also, on the other side, the poor recommendation that resulted in the neighbour asking for a change which should have been the first option that was recommended as it was the easiest, on the back of your poor recommendations - again no compensation for that has been offered.

We approached him on a Saturday and explained the urgency of the work and by Monday all our agreement paper work was ready. Within a month we had the award in our hand. Other surveyors take 2-3 weeks just to get the quote out but if you need work done quick. Carl is the man to approach.I could not recommend Carl enough. We are a building company called Birmingham contractors limited. We had issues with a neighbour of one of our clients regarding the party wall agreement. They were refusing to sign the agreement so we contacted Carl from PWS and from the outset he was brilliant, he really knows his stuff. Carl advised us on all the regulations regarding the party wall and also advised that it could cost my client a substantial amount of money as the neibour was doing his very best to stop the build going ahead. He wanted his own surveyor at a cost to my client and was being totally unreasonable. Carl advised us that we could build without this agreement if we stepped the build away from the boundary and not use the party wall to bare weight, which would inevitably save my client a lot of money and hassle dealing with the neighbour. By doing this Carl ended up out of a potential job and also didn’t ask us for a penny for the information he had already advised. He is the most honest guy we have came across in a long time! Most people would just take your money. I highly recommend Carl to anybody having such issues and we as a building company will be working alongside Carl on future projects.
