StepChange Debt Charity

I have always been impressed with the support Stepchange have offered in setting up my debt management plan. I have been doing this for 3 years and just 18 months to go and I will be debt free. Has made it so easy to manage my debts and deal with creditors. They have also always responded within 24 hours when ever I have emailed about something.

After being made redundant in 2014, me and my husband ended up in thousands of debt just to pay rent, bills and buy food. I was paying off the min payments on the credit cards then withdrawing the money to put into my bank account to pay rent. It was a mess. I couldn't cope and I didn't want to speak to the creditors. My mum told me about stepchange, I quickly set up a plan online and they sorted out everything for me, they spoke to the 9 creditors and arranged payment plans with them. They explained that my accounts would default and my credit rating would be affected meaning I'd struggle to get credit in future. Today, I have finally paid off my creditors and closed my dmp. I feel so grateful to stepchange for helping me. If you're just starting the journey to being debt free, it seems like it's going to be a long road ahead, but it does fly by and it's so worth it.

I spoke to a lovely woman (Tracey) when I was panicking and stressing out about bailiffs threatening to visit my home, she was incredibly helpful and informed me of the Breathing Space scheme which has put a stop to all of that until I can start work and begin to pay back my debt. Thank you so much!Also gave me information on bailiffs in general which I didn't know and put my mind completely at ease. Since starting my Breathing Space the company (Bristow & Suitor) have given the debt back, so no more threatening letters!I am so much happier now that I have a game plan, thanks to Tracey and StepChange. Life savers.

Made my situation worse. After coming to them for help with some bills. They wrote to my banks who then wrote to me saying they wanted to close my account because of this. I had money in my bank account to pay bills and my bank put a hold on my account while waiting to receive paper work stating I was not going forward with the dmp with this charity.Due to this I now have no money to pay my priority bills like rent this month because it’s in my bank account on hold. This has put me in more debt. I can’t even take out a loan because of contacting them and it going on my credit file even tho I never started my plan.To make matters worse when I phoned and told them my bank wanted them to write to them stating I was not in a plan with them they said this is something they cannot do. Do your self a favour and contact the company’s directly to set up a payment plan.

Awful experience, on your back as much as the creditors. They are biased towards the credit people. If you own a house they will try and force you to remortgage it so if you can remortgage do it first and save yourself 5 years of hassle and more debt as they add on their fee of over a £1000. They change the rules through the term too, I ended up in a very dark place because of them and nearly lost more than material things………….

A Strong Caution to AllAbdul Hamid is my name. I have money owed to me. I was introduced to the Step Change debt charity by British Gas. I asked them for assistance. They recommended debt administration. BUTI called them for an update one day. My call was answered by a woman. She inquired about my health throughout the conversation. Following a short period of time, I received a letter from DWP informing me that your PIP has been cancelled because you are ineligible.Although the aforementioned debit charity assert that they are separate entities with no affiliation with the DWP, I suspect, this is a division of the DWP. Furthermore, there are many names for the same organisation.This organisation is actually a wolf in sheep's clothing. I caution the people that DWP is benefiting from charity, not them.I've complained to this non-profit organisation. They have responded to my inquiries regarding their inefficiency with the same standard response that they are not at blame. The reason for this standard answer is because the defendant in the case and the inquiry officer are the same individual. Know about this charity.

I spoke to a lady Karen today very helpful and thoughtful made me feel at ease and it's not the end of the world. This is the only place to go for debt advice the difference when speaking to these and other companies is that other companies only want your money and you can come off the feeling worse.Step change appear to want to help unconditionally nothing but good things to say.
