Coach and Horses Country Inn
My partner and I had the pleasure of dining at The Coach and Horses in Compton recently, and it truly proved to be an exceptional experience from beginning to end. Tucked away in the heart of the South Downs National Park, this independently run country inn has undergone a delightful refurbishment, radiating warmth and cosiness. From the moment we stepped inside, we received a warm and welcoming greeting from the attentive staff, setting a wonderful tone for our evening. What's more, we were thrilled to find out that this charming establishment is dog-friendly, making it a perfect spot for us and our furry companion on future visits. The menu at The Coach and Horses boasts a delightful array of fresh homemade dishes, and each one we sampled was not only delectable but also impeccably presented. Their culinary creations truly left us impressed. The interior of the inn is adorned with charming period-inspired decor, creating a unique and comfortable atmosphere that transports you to another era. What's even more remarkable is the restaurant's commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. The toilets were spotlessly clean, and we appreciated the use of linen one-use hand towels, which added an extra layer of comfort to our dining experience. In terms of value for money, The Coach and Horses excels. Given the quality of the food and the cosy ambience, dining here is a true delight that won't strain your budget.A piece of advice we'd like to share: it's advisable to make a reservation in advance, as it's evident that this hidden gem is gaining popularity quickly. In conclusion, our visit to The Coach and Horses left a lasting impression on us.The friendly staff, delicious homemade dishes, charming atmosphere, commitment to cleanliness, and affordability combined to create a truly memorable dining experience. We eagerly anticipate our next visit for another delightful meal. Highly recommended!

We headed over to this lovely country pub with The Smart Scooter Club. The ride out to the countryside was really nice. On arrival there was plenty of space to park our beloved scooters. The landlord and landlady, along with bar staff, local chap and his Jack Russell could not have more welcoming!!We were pleasantly surprised to be served with two delicious pizzas and cauliflower dip on the bar.We all said we’d bring our other half’s here for diner soon and plan a return trip in n the spring!

I recently visited the Coach and Horses, a beautiful country pub, and I must say it was an absolute delight! The food they served was outstanding, with a nice menu offering a wide range of options to cater to different tastes. Not only was the quality top-notch, but the prices were great value for the generous portions they provided. I highly recommend this charming pub for a wonderful dining experience in a picturesque setting.

There is a dearth of really good pubs in the South Downs, but the Coach and Horses is a real find. Traditional but delicious pub food with with some imagination thrown in, attentive service, and a beautifully decorated bar and restaurant, makes this the perfect village country pub. Five stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

We called on Wednesday 19th July and had a lovely evening. The menu was straightforward and my fish finger burger was brilliant. A soft brioche bun, crispy fish, sides of peas and tangy tartare sauce with crispy fries was just right. Moreover, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord was served perfectly. Whilst it might be a while before we return (we live in Lincolnshire) the rest of our party seem keen to bring friends to this pleasant and attractive pub as soon as possible.PS I note a couple of reviews that are critical of the staff, landlord and decor. Frankly, all the people we met were lovely - friendly and welcoming. As for the pub? It was spotless, freshly decorated and furnished and a pleasure to visit

Gorgeous good, beautiful pub and fabulous service. Made to feel very welcome even with a dog in tow. Just the pea, brocolli and spinach soup by itself would make me go back and I’m not a big fan of soup generally.

Popped in for recce’ Lovely decor, but very expensive; not value for money. Couple drinks, London Pride and Rose’£14.50, nothing special. Obviously only a house Rose’ not given any choice. No wonder it had a lack of customers !
