Bells Fish and Chips
A very average lunch and no more.Prawn Cocktail starter was decent.Main courses sat on the pass for several minutes, so they weren't hot when we received them. We knew they were ours because we ordered mussels. The chips weren't great. Cold, and not the best in size or taste. The mussels were very good, but the large cod was dry and overcooked. We ordered mushy peas and these never arrived.A lovely looking restaurant, let down by poor service and largely average and cold food.

Food was okay, fish and chips portion wasn't very big for the price. Lovely decor. Lady that served us was a little judgey, didn't really like her attitude and expressions when we spoke to her.

Popped in on a whim after the opening few weeks had died down. We found the food delightful! We shared a starter to sample that part of the menu and then had the small and large fish and chips. I have never been so thrilled to order a small as it was more than enough for me. My partner struggled with the large but did finish it. Not for the faint hearted!I found it nice that they offer multiple ways to have your fish cooked and offer a range of fish options. I suppose it took me by surprise as I only know Bells as a fish and chip shop, which they also have a takeaway attached at the front of the building in case a walk along the seafront with some chips was on the cards.I also liked the half and half option which I ordered half chips and half salad which was a struggle. There is access to multiple free car parks around the restaurant and is a stones throw from Seaham's main shopping centre. Also a couple of minutes walk from Seaham marina and a couple of minutes walk away from the famous Tommy statue. The restaurant is right on major bus routes to Sunderland, Peterlee and Durham.Accessibility wise the main entrance is single door and all on one level. Seating is relatively spaced out and although yes there are booths there are other seating options available so wouldn't think this would be an issue for any disabled guests.Allergies neither of us have allergies or intolerances but from experience I would always advise ringing ahead of your visit to talk with staff about your needs regarding allergies and intolerances.

We visited recently and had some great fish and chips. I got the large cod and really I think the small my wife got would have done. Well cooked fish and chips, tasted like it's fried in beef dripping which is just the best. Well be back and happy to recommend.

First visit since it opened, 8/10 overallFood was spot on but service was a little slow and haphazard to be honest. Woman who served us didn’t seem to be aware of the stock of various items - we asked for white bread, she came back 5 mins later with brown and said “sorry we don’t have any white bread left, is brown ok?” Then literally another 5 mins later we saw various other staff members buttering white bread!?! Food took 25 mins to arrive. Fish and chips were really nice but the service dropped this down to an 8 when it could easily have been a 10.

My family and I visited Bells and had a mixed response. As a vegetarian, there are only 2 options on the menu - cheese Pattie and a veg lasagne. I asked for a cheese Pattie. After 5 or so minutes, waitress returns to tell me there are no cheese patties, so I would have to have lasagne. Not really a great thing to only have 1 “choice”. My family - who aren’t vegetarians loved their fish and chips though. Generous food portions. Service was on the slower side, but it was a busy Friday evening.

I went to Bells takeaway. The food was lovely although the service was a bit slow. Watch out for the birds outside near the benches as they are confident enough to dive bomb you while eating. It may be worth going into the restaurant itself.

Lovely restaurant. Friendly staff but most importantly the Fish (cod) and chips were amazing. The best we've ever had. Can't wait to come back again. Prices reasonable too. Also liked the standard slice of bread rather than thick doorsteps that some places serve. Background music not too loud so could hear my partner talking lol

The 1st time we visited was last week the food was fantastic the one and only staff that was serving was fantastic friendly fast but we went back yesterday there were more staff but but they were a lot slower the quality of the fish wasn't as good and because the room was quite cold my food cooled down very quickly but I do have to say the decor and music is great

Newly opened!Really well done out and perfectly positioned on the front street, with ample parking.Large building that can seat a lot of people. Really nicely decorated with neon signs of local landmarks and areas. Booths that remind you of lobster pots and with framed pictures of mining memorabilia.Fantastic industrial touches in the ceiling and a large cast iron wheel above the bar area. Several drinks to choose from with lager on tap too.Large menu of various seafood choices as well as the usual fish shop staples. The food was excellent. The fish was beautifully white fresh. The service was very friendly and professional.Definitely recommended.
