Newstead Abbey
One time home of Lord Byron, now owned by Nottingham City Council. Many rooms open, with picture lined walls, Byron memorabilia to look at, fantastic gardens, and grounds to explore. Plenty of parking, picnic areas, cafe.

I didn't go inside the property, just visited the gardens. But this is a day out in itself. What lovely gardens. There's a lake, Japanese garden, Rose garden, woodlands walks and creams teas in the Orangery in the summer months. Well worth a visit.

This is such a hidden gem. It is accessible by both car and bus, but if you choose the bus option you'll have to take a 25 min walk through the forest (it's a nice path though). There is a seperate fee for entering the house but it's totally worth it! All the guides are very helpful and passionate about what they're doing and the house itself is STUNNING full of neat little quirks that reveal some interesting stuff about Byron. They also have costumes which you can try on to feel like proper Victorians. The garden is also great! I especially reccomend the Japanese garden and the dog grave. (Oh and the cafe is okay but nothing special)

Lovely visit. You don't realise just how vast the grounds are! So many areas to explore that even at a weekend it doesn't feel busy.Lots of wildlife to see including the resident peacocks.Cafe is nice and reasonably priced. £6 per car to enter but you don't mind when the grounds are nicely maintained.

Fab day out despite the weather, really interesting to learn the history of the House, and some eye opening things about various Lord Byron’s, the volunteers were all so enthusiastic and informative. Had a nice cuppa and cake in the reasonably priced cafe before venturing out into the gardens, which even in the pouring rain isn’t he midst of autumn, were beautiful. Will definitely go back when it’s summer!

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the charm of this historic estate. The abbey itself, steeped in literary history as the former residence of Lord Byron, is a fascinating place to explore. Each room is a window into the past, and the knowledgeable guides provide intriguing insights into Lord Byron's life and work. What truly sets Newstead Abbey apart, though, is its natural beauty. The lush green gardens, framed by centuries-old trees, offer a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Taking a leisurely stroll around the abbey's grounds, with the small lake glistening in the sunlight, is a perfect way to connect with nature and unwind.During my visit, I also enjoyed a delicious meal at the on-site cafe, which offered a variety of refreshments to recharge before continuing my exploration.Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply in search of a tranquil day out, Newstead Abbey is an ideal destination. The blend of historical significance and natural splendor makes it a memorable and rejuvenating place to spend a day.
