Buchanan Castle
Car park right next to it, Amongst the houses not the gold club, but use the golf course road. Once there wee fence hop and your in. Wear sensible shoes as rubble everywhere. If going into the basement watch overhead as floors could collapse!! Fun but warnings x

Castle ruins are interesting, but a lot of overgrowth and fencing makes it hard to really get a full sense of its scale and grandness. The south side is primarily blocked by a gated private driveway.

A fascinating castle ruin worth a visit when you’re in the neighbourhood. The forest is rapidly reclaiming its territory and the plants and trees growing on and between the castle walls give it an eerie feel. A visit at dusk on Halloween’s eve seemed appropriate

Very cool abandoned castle. You can't get very close as it is surrounded by a fence. Was surprised that it was in the middle of some houses

We went in August 2022 and it was an incredible experience. A little complicated to find and there was only one spot in the fence through which it was accessible, but once we got there, it was one of the best abandoned places I've visited so far.

Great spot to explore. Small hole in the fence to get in (watch out for barbed wire). Breathtaking when the light is good. Seeing nature takeover was gorgeous, just watch where you step! Not much parking right by the unofficial dirt path entrance.

Buchanan Castle
Amazing place, so beautiful and breathtaking. It's made nature it's home. You can see parts from the fence but going in is even better. Definitely worth a visit.

Loved this ruined castle. It was so eerie and great to explore. Obviously you're not supposed to go in, but there's a hole in the fence going in has definitely got me on full alert as I didn't know what to expect.

First off this is forbidden to enter. Is located in the middle of the estate and you can literally drive right past it if you don't know where it is or what you are looking for. Such a shame this was abandoned back in the day as is a very beautiful castle. Feel so sad rhat people not only break in because they want their piece of history for themselves but that people choose to vandalise this place. This piece of history is crumbling and unsafe to venture in yet we do but to leave behind rocks covered in graffiti isn't the way this place should be rememberedA bit of history:Dating back to the 1850s, it was built by the instruction of James Graham, the 4th Duke of Montrose. Intended as a family home, it remains a Clan Graham seat today. The current ruin’s predecessor had been home to the Clan Buchanan but was sold to the Grahams in the 17th Century, before it was destroyed by fire in 1852. This beauty replaced it. Sold in 1925, grand 1930s plans for it to serve as a hotel were dashed by World War II when its function became altogether more practical. It was firstly a hospital and then a post-war school. Buchanan Castle’s most fascinating nugget of information, though, stems from the brief visit of Rudolf Hess, the Deputy Fuhrer of Germany in the midst of that great conflictI love these old ruins and Buchanan Castle is just one of many that I have taken an interest in this year. You can read about a few more of my abandoned and derelict favourites to date here. Each has their own poignant story as former family homes and they’ve all had ambitious subsequent plans for use, yet now they all sit lonely and forgotten. Feasts for the imagination and wonderances at what might have been.Buchanan Castle, like other abandoned buildings are not necessarily safe or accessible to visitors. Some sites are fenced up, others not, but I would never recommend entering derelict areas.

Not too easy to find but definitely worth the effort. Google Maps sent me down a farm track but it's simplest to get there via the main Buchanan Castle Estate entrance.
