Stephenson House - iQ Student Accommodation Newcastle

I have lived at IQ Stephenson house for the last two years, and I couldn’t recommend it more. The rooms were spacious and a great deal for the money you pay for the rooms.The reception team has been the best team I have seen in the last five years of my university life. They were all lovely and helpful with anything that you need help with. Special thanks to Harley for helping me out with everything in the last two years.The maintenance team was always quick with any fix you require in your room or even in the communal area.Overall I would rate IQ Stephenson a 10/10

stayed here over a temporary residency over 9 weeks. the building itself is very old hence traps a lot of heat, weird smells, and there was a lot of bugs in my flat, but i can’t lie i think it was due to the people who lived here all year being dirty. my own experience here has been bad, but i’m leaving a mostly positive review as i’m pretty sure it’s due to the flatmates i have been given. on one of my first nights, one of them came into my room while i was sleeping at 5am and got into my bed, fully unclothed, and refused to leave after i woke up screaming seeing him on top of me. they have moved around all my belongings, taken bathroom things that i have purchased, came into my room and poured my handsoap all over my windowsill, turned my box of plates/dishes/valuables on its side in the middle of the night. i hope if you get a flat here, you don’t end up living with barbarians like these. on my first day moving in, the kitchen had a huge fly infestation because of how dirty it was. however i’m leaving a mostly positive review as this is no fault of the staff who work here, who are so kind and helpful. honestly if it wasn’t for how great they are, and also the communal spaces i find excellent too, i would have gone insane here. for the price it is good value for money so long as you don’t have psycho flatmates .

I had a mixed experience staying at iQ Stephenson House for the past 11 months.Generally, it is good value for money - the rooms are spacious, as are the communal areas and common room/games room, and the furniture is modern. The reception staff are also very friendly and approachable, and always there to support you. Another bonus is that there is always someone at reception (staff during the day, security at night and weekends), so you can be sure that if you order a parcel, it will be always get delivered!However, when it comes to maintenance, the response (in my experience) was incredibly poor. From November 2020-December 2020, our flat had NO hot water for AN ENTIRE MONTH! This was made worse by the fact that it was winter. Many complaints were made and emails sent, yet it was responded to with absolutely no urgency. The accommodation has a legal, contractual obligation to provide hot water to its tenants yet it failed to do so (which is breaking the law), and when I emailed about this asking for some sort of compensation (i.e. slightly reduced rent or partial refund), I was told that the failure to provide hot water was 'not an issue that would lead to a rent reduction'.Furthermore, our bath/shower was broken for three-four weeks until it got fixed. At first, the problem was made worse, but in the end they did a good job.Side note: if you're sensitive to noise when falling asleep, don't get a room at the front of the building!

The staff are 11/10 and really make the place amazing and I could not be happier with them.The actual accommodation really needs refurbed, the rooms are great and modern and immaculate, however the bathrooms and kitchens are quite bad, I can’t lie.They are very old, the shower curtains do not do favours well, the flooring is horid in the bathrooms and kitchen, the fridges and freezers are VERY old and don’t work amazingly it seems, and are hard to reach if you have mobility issues, the showers do not fit properly on the holder (it falls down unless you point it to spray all over the floor, which isn’t great) and the toilets all (from talking to others in building too) do not seem to work even after maintenance have came. A good point is maintenance do fix things quickly usually, I just wish they’d leave a note to say they’d been, they never do.The security are half nice half rude! One security man told me he would leave me without electricity for a day when it fused; and I told him I needed heating because I was vulnerable due to my condition he said ‘Stop being dramatic you won’t die’ , how charming!Ultimately I am happy mostly here, your experience very much depends on flatmates and I have had a very poor experience with my flatmates who still leave bad mess and do not clean, and steal stuff, but that’s not fully the accommodation’s fault, I just wish they would do something about it.I think in terms of allocation they should have more staff or security overnight, is my opinion, and less rude ones.I recommend if you are looking for budget accommodation overall, however I think some improvements would definitely help the place.

Stayed in the one bedroom private apartment. The apartment is big and spacious with plenty of natural light coming in. Had a great experience overall and it was definitely worth the money. Great staff onsite too - special shout out to Harley and Beth for all your help!

I recently stayed at IQ STEPHENSON and wanted to share my experience. The accommodation provides a range of rooms in different categories, with prices starting at 90 pounds per week, which is reasonable for the area. One of the best things about the place is the friendly and responsive staff, who are always ready to help with a smile. There are also various events held in the common room for residents, which is a great way to meet new people and make friends.However, my personal experience was not entirely positive. I felt cheated by being given the worst room in the flat. Although there are five rooms per flat, the ones near the building edge are irregularly shaped and smaller in size than the other rooms. Despite this, residents are still required to pay the same rent, which I felt was unfair. Additionally, the dimensions and photos shown on the map are of the other square-shaped rooms, which is misleading.Before booking, I only referred to the photos on Google Maps and did not ask for a video reference of the room. This resulted in me being given an irregularly shaped room. Therefore, I would advise anyone planning to book a room in IQ to ask for a video reference before booking and not to book without viewing the room virtually.On the positive side, I was impressed by the maintenance team's responsiveness. When my bedroom heater was out of order, I raised a request via the IQ portal, and the maintenance team resolved the problem within a day. It was a quick and efficient service, which I appreciated.There are both positives and negatives to staying at IQ STEPHENSON. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the maintenance service is quick and efficient. However, residents should be aware that the irregularly shaped rooms are smaller and not as desirable as the others, and they should view a video reference of the room before booking to avoid disappointment.

I had an amazing stay at this student accommodation for the past two years (2021-2023). The service team is superb, always quick to respond to issues (if you have any at all), and the staff members (Special thanks to Harley Summers here!) usually go above and beyond to ensure that you have a pleasant stay at the Stephenson House. The iQ group also regularly hosts events that help their cohort socialise, and this helped me make several friends in the community. The rooms can also be quite big (Flat 21-6 is insanely good) depending on the class that you choose. I think this might be one the best student accommodations in Newcastle for people who want a place that offers the best value for their money.

Amazing value for money. Staff members are extremely friendly and helpful (special thanks to Harley!), any maintenance issues were fixed promptly. The location is ideal for Northumbria university students.
